Background
Aakash Goel is a seasoned venture investor and former management consultant with over 15 years of experience spanning investing, company building, and strategy consulting. He holds a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, where he was a college merit holder at both institutions. His career began at McKinsey & Company, where he served clients across India, North America, and Europe in the Technology, Outsourcing, and Financial Services sectors, advising on strategy, operations, go-to-market approaches, and post-merger management.
Goel transitioned into venture investing as an Associate at Sequoia Capital India, one of the most prominent venture firms operating in the Indian market. At Sequoia, he was closely involved in the firm's investments in companies including JustDial, Citrus Payments, Zaakpay, Altius Healthcare, OneAssist, Near, UnitedLex, and I-Yogi. He then moved to Bessemer Venture Partners, a US-based technology-focused venture fund with $5 billion in assets under management, where he served as Principal for India Investments. At Bessemer, he played a crucial role in equity investments in UrbanClap (now Urban Company), BigBasket, HomeFirst Finance, Cashify, Perfios, LivSpace, Innoviti, Pharmeasy, and Hungama. Between Bessemer and Sequoia, he helped deploy approximately $240 million in over 20 companies across early, venture, and growth stages.
In January 2018, Goel joined Trifecta Capital -- India's first independent venture debt firm -- as a Partner. At Trifecta, he led the firm's venture debt and select equity investments in companies such as Vedantu, Cuemath, NoBroker, Practo, Innoviti, Krazybee, and Atomberg. He departed Trifecta approximately three years later, around early 2021, coinciding with the firm's final closing of its second fund at INR 1,025 Cr (~$150 million). Upon leaving, Goel indicated plans to launch a new startup venture.
Investment Thesis & Focus
Aakash Goel's investing career has centered on India's rapidly growing technology ecosystem, with a particular emphasis on digital-first businesses spanning Internet, mobile, and enterprise SaaS. His experience bridges both venture equity and venture debt, giving him a distinctive perspective on capital structuring for high-growth companies. At Trifecta, he operated within the venture debt model -- providing specialty debt financing to companies that are not served by traditional lenders, typically structured as a combination of loans with limited equity investment rights (warrants). His equity investing background at Bessemer and Sequoia focused on backing market-defining Indian startups across consumer services, fintech, healthtech, edtech, and B2B sectors from early stage through growth. He has demonstrated a consistent interest in companies with strong unit economics, digital distribution advantages, and large addressable markets within India.
