Background
Aamer Ahmad Sarfraz, Baron Sarfraz (born 25 September 1981), is a British-Pakistani serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and member of the UK House of Lords. Born in London to a Pakistani Muslim family, he grew up in Islamabad before migrating to the United Kingdom in 2002. He holds a degree from Boston University's School of Management, an MSc (with Distinction) in Information Systems from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies. His career in investing began as an analyst in the Venture Capital team at 3i Group (LON: III), one of the world's largest listed private equity and venture capital firms.
From 2006 to 2014, Sarfraz served as Managing Director at The Electrum Group (UK) LLP, a global private equity firm investing in natural resources, where he focused on international strategic partnerships, deal sourcing, fundraising, and business development for portfolio companies. He then co-founded the Draper Oakwood Companies alongside legendary venture capitalist Tim Draper, building a platform to provide entrepreneurs with innovative sources of growth capital. Through Draper Oakwood, he founded a Nasdaq-listed SPAC -- Draper Oakwood Technology Acquisition (DOTAU) -- becoming one of the youngest founders of a Nasdaq-listed company. That vehicle completed a reverse merger with Reebonz Holding in December 2018. He also launched Draper Oakwood Royalty Capital, an alternative financing model enabling companies to raise between $5 million and $20 million without giving up equity, instead repaying investors through a small percentage of future revenues.
Beyond venture capital, Sarfraz has significant public service and entrepreneurial commitments. He was nominated to the House of Lords in 2020, created Baron Sarfraz of Kensington, and took his seat in September 2020. He previously served as Conservative Party Treasurer and as the Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Singapore (2022-2024). He is also the founder of Better Grain (NetZeroAg), an agtech business building sustainable agricultural supply chains and working with thousands of smallholder farmers across Asia to use technology to improve crops and livelihoods. In August 2025, he was appointed Chancellor of the University of East London, and in September 2025, he became Honorary Colonel of the 31 (Middlesex Yeomanry & Princess Louise's Kensington) Signal Squadron.
Investment Thesis & Focus
Sarfraz operates at the intersection of technology venture capital, growth capital, and impact investing. Through his partnership with Tim Draper and the broader Draper Venture Network, he focuses on early- to growth-stage technology companies across consumer tech, fintech, healthcare, manufacturing, education, and government technology. His Draper Oakwood Royalty Capital vehicle offers a distinctive non-dilutive financing model -- revenue-based financing -- targeting companies generating at least $15-60 million in annual revenue who want capital without surrendering equity. His personal entrepreneurial focus through Better Grain / NetZeroAg reflects a deep interest in agtech, sustainable agriculture, and emerging-market economic development, particularly in South Asia and Pakistan through Indus Basin Holding.
