Background
Aaron Bird is a serial entrepreneur, operator, and angel investor based in Seattle. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from UC Santa Barbara and an MBA from Pepperdine University. Bird spent over 15 years at Microsoft, where he rose to Senior Lead Program Manager working on Bing Ads. While at Microsoft, he and co-founder Peter Thompson identified a fundamental disconnect between how marketers paid for online advertising and the actual business value those ads generated -- an insight that led them to found Bizible, a B2B marketing attribution platform.
As CEO, Bird grew Bizible through Techstars Seattle, raised approximately $20 million in venture funding, and ultimately sold the company to Marketo in May 2018. Following the acquisition, he served as Senior Vice President of Product Management at Marketo, where he was part of the executive leadership team during Adobe's landmark $4.75 billion acquisition of Marketo later that same year. After the Adobe-Marketo integration, Bird turned his attention to building new ventures and investing in the next generation of B2B software companies.
In 2020, Bird launched Pienza, a Seattle-based B2B startup studio that raised $5.1 million from MHS Capital, Version One Ventures, Vulcan Capital, and several angel investors. Pienza's stated goal is to build "more than one unicorn over the next 10 years," taking a concentrated approach with just a few high-conviction bets. Out of Pienza, Bird co-founded Inflection.io -- a product-led B2B marketing automation platform -- alongside Oak Nguyen and Nakul Ezhuthupally Sibiraj. In December 2024, Inflection raised $7.6 million in additional funding, bringing its total raised to $13.9 million across two rounds. Bird also serves as a Venture Partner at Peak State Ventures, an early-stage fund investing in future of work, PropTech, and digital healthcare.
Investment Thesis & Focus
Aaron Bird invests primarily at the seed stage in B2B software companies, with a particular emphasis on enterprise applications, marketing technology (MarTech), business productivity software, and data infrastructure. His thesis is grounded in his direct operating experience building, scaling, and exiting B2B SaaS companies. He gravitates toward founders tackling inefficiencies in how businesses market, sell, and operate -- problems he has lived firsthand. Through Pienza, he takes a hands-on studio approach, co-founding and deeply supporting a small number of companies rather than spreading thin across a large portfolio. His angel investments reflect a similar pattern: high-conviction bets in companies where he can add operational and go-to-market expertise.
