Background

Aaron Lubowitz is the Founder and Managing Member of Alternative Capital Partners, LLC (ACP), an investment and advisory boutique based in New York with extensive experience in private equity, private investments, traditional project finance, and tax equity investments. Since founding ACP in 2009, Lubowitz has successfully raised or invested in excess of $500 million of structured equity capital, predominantly into real estate and renewable energy transactions.

Before establishing his own firm, Lubowitz had a distinguished 17-year career at Morgan Stanley, where he ultimately served as Managing Director and Global Co-Head of the Global Structured Products group. During his tenure at Morgan Stanley, he was instrumental in building the firm's alternative investment capabilities, founding the affordable housing tax equity business in 2002, establishing the New Markets tax credit business in 2004, and helping to launch the renewable energy tax equity investment business. These businesses collectively grew to over $5 billion in transactional size by 2009. Throughout his time at Morgan Stanley, Lubowitz helped the firm and its clients deploy over $30 billion in capital, including over $3 billion in equity capital, with at least $1 billion earmarked specifically for the renewable energy sector. In 2004, he was promoted to Managing Director and subsequently named head of the Global Structured Products group, where he was responsible for a portfolio in excess of $5 billion.

Lubowitz graduated summa cum laude from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 as a Joseph Wharton Scholar, with concentrations in Finance and Accounting. His academic distinction reflects the analytical rigor and financial sophistication he has brought to his investment career spanning over three decades.

During his career at Morgan Stanley, Lubowitz served as a director on the boards of several renewable energy companies, including BrightSource Energy, a concentrated solar power technology company, and Firmgreen Energy. He was also an early-stage investment backer of SolarCity (later acquired by Tesla), where his team helped structure funds to facilitate the leasing options that became central to SolarCity's business model. His early involvement in solar and renewable energy positioned him as a pioneer in the clean energy investment space during a critical period of sector growth.

Investment Thesis & Focus

Alternative Capital Partners operates as both an investment firm and financial advisory boutique, focusing on structuring, developing, and investing in complex financial transactions. The firm's investment philosophy centers on identifying opportunities in structured finance and alternative assets where sophisticated capital structuring can unlock significant value.

Core Investment Areas:

Investment Approach: Lubowitz brings a structured products and tax equity lens to his investments, leveraging his deep expertise in complex financial instruments developed during his Morgan Stanley tenure. The firm is particularly skilled at navigating the intersection of tax policy, project finance, and alternative assets, making it well-suited for investments that require sophisticated capital structuring.
