Background

Aaron Matto is a seasoned private equity professional with nearly two decades of experience in technology-focused investing. He began his career in 2005 as an analyst in the Mergers & Acquisitions group at UBS Investment Bank, where he built a strong foundation in deal execution and financial analysis. He then moved to Genstar Capital (2007-2009), where he executed leveraged buyout transactions, gaining hands-on experience in control investing.

From 2011 to 2015, Matto served as a Vice President at Spectrum Equity, where he led growth equity investments within the software, internet, and digital media sectors. This role sharpened his expertise in identifying and scaling high-growth technology businesses. In 2015, he became a founding member of True Wind Capital, a San Francisco-based private equity firm focused on technology and technology-enabled services businesses. At True Wind, he rose to Managing Director (promoted January 2020) and was appointed to the firm's Investment Committee, serving on the boards of portfolio companies including Transflo, AIA Contract Documents (ACD), Sterling Capital Brokers, and The Switch.

In 2023, Matto joined TPG Growth -- the middle market and growth equity platform of TPG, one of the world's largest alternative asset managers -- as a Business Unit Partner. At TPG, he continues to focus on technology investments, including leading the acquisition of Irth Solutions from Blackstone in 2025. He holds a B.S. in Finance from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Investment Thesis & Focus

Matto's investment approach centers on identifying proven businesses across industries being disrupted by technology, and partnering with management teams to unlock growth potential. His career spans the full spectrum of technology investing -- from growth equity in software and digital media at Spectrum Equity, to complex transaction structures (take-privates, carve-outs, buyouts, roll-ups, and PIPEs) at True Wind Capital.

His sector expertise spans enterprise software, SaaS, digital media, transportation technology, cybersecurity, fintech, and technology-enabled services. He favors businesses with strong fundamentals that can benefit from active operational partnership, including support for acquisitive growth strategies (as seen with LeadVenture's 16 acquisitions under True Wind's ownership). At TPG Growth, he continues to pursue middle-market technology investments with a hands-on, value-creation-oriented approach.

Key sectors of focus include: enterprise applications, SaaS, cybersecurity, fintech/payments, transportation technology, digital media, compliance, and IT services.
