Background

Aaron T. Walker is a social impact investor, serial entrepreneur, and founder of two pioneering organizations dedicated to supporting underrepresented founders. He founded Camelback Ventures in 2015 in New Orleans, creating one of the first national accelerators explicitly focused on entrepreneurs of color and women in the social impact space. After nearly a decade of leadership, Walker stepped down as CEO in early 2024 to launch the Ruthless for Good Fund, where he now serves as Founder and Managing Partner.

Walker's path to venture capital was shaped by diverse experiences across education, law, and nonprofit leadership. He began his career as a ninth-grade English teacher in West Philadelphia, where he witnessed firsthand the challenges facing underserved communities and the importance of representation—he was among only 2% of Black male teachers in his district. This experience instilled in him a belief in supporting capable people and championing those often overlooked by traditional systems.

After teaching, Walker attended law school at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School (2005-2008), where he was one of only six Black students in his cohort. He practiced as a corporate lawyer, putting together deals for companies large and small, which taught him that exceptional service providers bring both expertise and business acumen to their clients. He also served as a portfolio director for the NYC Fund for Public Schools, supporting innovative educational initiatives.

Walker's entrepreneurial journey began when he ran the pilot Camelback Fellowship for entrepreneurs of color out of his Brooklyn living room. Seeing the tremendous need and potential, he officially founded Camelback Ventures in 2015, relocating to New Orleans to build the organization. His founding principle was simple but powerful: the entrepreneurial ecosystem often creates solutions *for* communities of color without enabling those communities to lead and innovate themselves. Camelback was designed to change that narrative.

Under Walker's leadership, Camelback Ventures grew from a small accelerator to a nationally recognized institution supporting over 181 entrepreneurs through two fellowship cycles per year, raising over $20 million in philanthropic capital, and helping Fellows collectively raise more than $100 million in subsequent funding rounds. Multiple Camelback Fellows have been recognized on Forbes' 30 Under 30 lists. In 2021, Walker spun out the Ruthless for Good Fund, a $30 million venture capital fund making equity investments in BIPOC and women founders building companies in education, workforce, and access innovation.

Walker holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia (1999-2003) and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School (2005-2008). He also speaks Spanish. He serves on the Board of Stewards at Gratitude Railroad, a philanthropic organization supporting mission-driven funds and founders.

Investment Thesis & Focus

Aaron T. Walker's investment philosophy centers on backing "the most resilient, enterprising, impact-focused and often overlooked founders" building legacy-worthy companies. His approach is informed by a decade of experience observing that diverse founders—particularly BIPOC entrepreneurs and women—are systematically underfunded despite often outperforming their peers. Walker invests at the intersection of social impact and venture-scale returns, focusing on three core sectors:

What He Looks For:

Walker's investment thesis explicitly challenges traditional VC, which he views as too often creating solutions *for* communities without enabling those communities to lead. He believes that backing diverse founders is not only a moral imperative but also a financial opportunity, as these entrepreneurs often build more capital-efficient, deeply customer-aware companies.
