Background
Abhik Mitra is a seasoned operational leader and private equity professional with over 28 years of experience spanning logistics, consumer products, entertainment, and industrial sectors. He currently serves as Managing Director of the Operations Group at Samara Capital, a leading India-focused mid-market private equity firm, where he joined in April 2023. In this role, he works closely with portfolio company leadership teams to drive business transformation through operational excellence and accelerated value creation.
Abhik holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Chemical Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Varanasi (also known as IIT-BHU). His educational foundation in engineering has informed his analytical and process-driven approach to business transformation throughout his career.
His professional journey began with blue-chip consumer goods companies, including Hindustan Unilever, where he gained foundational expertise in operations and business management. He subsequently held leadership positions at RPG Group, where he served as President and CEO of the Entertainment Sector, and TNT India (CEAT Tyres Limited), where he was Managing Director. At CEAT's Sri Lanka business, Abhik demonstrated his turnaround expertise by successfully acquiring and transforming the operations into a market leader with over 50% market share.
The defining chapter of Abhik's operational career came during his 11-year tenure as Founder, CEO, and Managing Director of SpotOn Logistics Pvt. Ltd., a company he built from the ground up. Under his leadership, SpotOn Logistics grew multi-fold to become one of India's leading road express logistics businesses, with a network of approximately 1,000 employees across the country and operations headquartered in Bengaluru. This entrepreneurial success established his reputation as a transformational operator capable of scaling businesses in capital-intensive, operationally complex industries.
Following his success at SpotOn Logistics, Abhik transitioned into the private equity ecosystem, taking on roles as Operating Partner at India Equity Partners and later joining Samara Capital. He is also a Partner at SVP India (Social Venture Partners India) since 2019, contributing to the organization's mission of promoting social venture philanthropy in India. In addition to his investment roles, Abhik has held operational positions at Delhivery, one of India's largest logistics and supply chain companies, further deepening his sector expertise.
Investment Thesis & Focus
Abhik Mitra's investment philosophy centers on operational value creation in mid-market companies across India. His approach is informed by decades of hands-on experience building, scaling, and transforming businesses in operationally intensive sectors. At Samara Capital, his mandate is to collaborate with portfolio company CEOs and management teams to implement best practices, drive efficiency improvements, and unlock growth through strategic operational initiatives.

Value-Add to Portfolio: Abhik's value proposition is rooted in his ability to drive transformation from the inside. He is not a passive board observer but rather an active operational partner who can diagnose inefficiencies, design improvement roadmaps, and work alongside management to execute change. His background as a founder and CEO gives him credibility and empathy when working with entrepreneurial leaders navigating growth or transition phases.
At Samara Capital, Abhik has emphasized the importance of embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles at every stage of the investment lifecycle. He has publicly stated that "sustainability is not an option – it's an imperative" and that integrating ESG practices from deal sourcing through portfolio management helps build resilient businesses prepared for future challenges.
