Background
Abhishek Goenka leads RPSG Capital Ventures as its Head and Chief Investment Officer, and is credited as a co-founder of the fund. He brings roughly two decades of experience across investments and M&A. Before establishing the RPSG fund, he was part of the investments team at True North (formerly India Value Fund Advisors) and earlier worked at JP Morgan. He is a Chartered Accountant (CA) and a CFA charterholder by qualification.
RPSG Capital Ventures was established in 2018 as the venture capital arm of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, a diversified Indian conglomerate with interests spanning power and energy, carbon black/chemicals, retail (consumer), media and entertainment, IT, sports, and agriculture. The fund was created to back exceptional entrepreneurs building consumer brands for the Indian market, with the Group acting as the anchor/sponsor investor.
The first fund was an INR 300 crore early-stage vehicle. In May 2024, the firm announced the final close of its second fund at INR 550 crore, with the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group doubling its anchor commitment and a largely domestic LP base of family offices, high-net-worth individuals, and consumer-sector veterans. Under Goenka, the fund maintains a deliberately concentrated, high-conviction strategy with disciplined underwriting filters rather than a high-volume spray-and-pray approach.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Backs early-stage Indian consumer brands — food & beverage, CPG, personal care, cosmetics, lifestyle, health & wellness — plus "consumer enabler" businesses serving that ecosystem.
- Positions the fund as a value-adding strategic partner to founders, leveraging the operating depth and distribution reach of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group.
- Pursues a focused, limited portfolio with strong underwriting discipline; "everything is good at the right price" is a recurring framing of his valuation-conscious approach.
- Fund II writes Series A initial cheques of roughly INR 10–40 crore, with capacity to follow on in winners.
- Emphasizes patience and discipline ("a little bit of discipline and a little bit of patience") and a long-term, returns-focused orientation for LPs.
