Background
Adam Abelson is Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of the US Large Cap Equity Strategy at Fischer Stralem Advisors, the firm created in 2020 when his family's firm, Stralem & Company, merged with Hightower-affiliated Fischer & Company. Stralem & Company was founded in 1966 by investment bankers Donald Stralem and Hirschel Abelson — Adam's father — to manage high-net-worth and private-client capital with a wealth-preservation orientation. Adam joined Stralem in 1998, became a senior portfolio manager in 2006, and was named Chief Investment Officer in 2011.
At the firm he chairs the Investment Committee for the proprietary US Large Cap Equity Strategy (LCES), leads the research effort, and oversees implementation of the strategy. He co-authors the firm's quarterly "West of the Hudson" letter, which is built from the team's research trips around the world, and has served as a director of Stralem's UCITS fund. Before entering asset management, he managed business units across the emerging-technologies, consumer-products, and hotel/gaming industries.
Abelson earned a Bachelor of Arts from Pitzer College at the Claremont Colleges. He has also served as a judge for the Yale-affiliated Global Network for Advanced Management investment competition.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in US large-capitalization public equities, not private startups — a concentrated, research-driven strategy aimed at long-term compounding with downside protection.
- Inherits Stralem's founding philosophy of wealth preservation for high-net-worth and private clients, balancing "offensive" growth holdings with more defensive, stable holdings.
- Research is informed by global, on-the-ground travel ("research trips around the world"), distilled into the firm's quarterly "West of the Hudson" letter.
- Decision-making is committee-based: as Investment Committee chair he leads a disciplined, fundamentals-first process rather than deal-by-deal opportunistic investing.
Notable Investments
- Stralem Equity Fund (STEFX) — the firm's mutual fund vehicle expressing the US Large Cap Equity Strategy; Abelson oversaw the strategy underlying the fund.
- Stralem US Large Cap Equity Strategy (LCES) / UCITS fund — the firm's flagship separately managed and pooled large-cap equity products, of which he has been CIO and a fund director.
- *(No public record of angel, seed, or venture-stage company investments exists for Adam Abelson; the firm invests in publicly traded large-cap securities, individual holdings of which are not disclosed here without source verification.)*
