Background
Adam Henick is a longtime healthcare operator turned investor. Before founding his own firm, he was the founder and President of Mount Sinai Ambulatory Ventures, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mount Sinai Health System that invested strategically in ambulatory surgery centers, urgent care centers, management service organizations, and health technology companies. In that role he spent roughly seven years building a portfolio that generated returns for both Continuum Health Partners and Mount Sinai, and he cited a desire for greater capital and independence as his motivation for eventually striking out on his own.
His operating résumé is deep in health-system management. In addition to leading Mount Sinai Ambulatory Ventures, he served as SVP of Medical Enterprise & Ambulatory Care at The Mount Sinai Health System, and in 2016 was appointed Chief Operating Officer of AdvantageCare Physicians, one of the largest primary and specialty care practices in the New York area. Earlier in his career he held senior roles including Vice President at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) and Executive Director at Montefiore Medical Center. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Accuity Delivery Systems.
Henick leveraged that operating and investing experience to launch New World Health, a Manhattan-based venture firm focused on health and wellness companies. He is one of six managing partners who collectively committed an initial $50 million to start the firm; the partner group is heavily physician-weighted, including figures such as Isaac Oved, Dr. Ronald Mizrahi, Dr. Paul Low, Dr. Edward Lung (a Mount Sinai gastroenterology professor), and Dr. Joseph Oved. He holds an undergraduate degree from Hunter College and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in health and wellness companies with a deliberately broad, loosely defined interpretation of the sector — spanning consumer health devices, digital health, healthcare services, and medical technology.
- Backs companies at seed and early venture stages (his firm has participated in rounds through Series A).
- Brings a rare combination of large health-system operating experience (Mount Sinai, AdvantageCare, Montefiore) and institutional healthcare-investing experience, meaning he evaluates deals through both a clinical/operational and a returns lens.
- The firm's structure — six managing partners, most of them practicing physicians, pooling their own capital — signals a preference for deals the partners can personally understand clinically and add value to operationally.
Notable Investments
- Sollis Health — Membership-based premium urgent/emergency and concierge medical care provider; Henick participated in the company's $30M Series A (closed late 2021 / announced early 2022, led by Torch Capital and Denali Growth Partners).
- Owlet — Salt Lake City maker of the "smart sock" that lets parents remotely monitor an infant's vital signs (an early New World Health investment).
- Epicured — Manhattan-based meal-delivery service catering to people with digestive illnesses (e.g., low-FODMAP diets).
- BioTrace Medical — San Carlos, CA medical-device company whose technology aims to reduce complications in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures.
