Adam Townsend

Adam Townsend is a senior media and technology finance executive whose career has centered on investor relations, corporate finance, and M&A. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Early in his career he worked in research and operations at Franklin Templeton Investments and served as an equity research analyst at JP Morgan Securities covering the online-trading sector, before joining E*TRADE Financial Corporation as Managing Director of Investor Relations and Corporate Strategy, where he worked with the CEO on identifying global expansion opportunities.

Townsend joined CBS Corporation in July 2008 as Executive Vice President, Investor Relations, and in January 2016 expanded into Executive Vice President, Corporate Finance and Investor Relations, overseeing CBS's daily outreach to the investment community and its treasury function. He built and led investor-communication strategy for major corporate transactions, including the IPO of CBS's Outdoor business and the split-off of CBS Radio via its combination with Entercom. He was voted the #1 Media Investor Relations Officer by sell-side analysts in Institutional Investor magazine's All-America Executive Team survey for seven consecutive years (2012–2018) and was named the overall Best Media IR Professional in 2017 and 2018.

In October 2018 he was appointed Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Strategy of Showtime Networks, a CBS division. In May 2020 he became Chief Financial Officer of VIZIO Holding Corp., where he led finance, accounting, internal audit, and SEC reporting through the company's successful March 2021 IPO on the NYSE (VZIO) and, subsequently, VIZIO's ~$2.3 billion acquisition by Walmart in 2024. In April 2026 he joined the board of DeFi Development Corp. (DFDV), a decentralized-finance and blockchain-infrastructure company.
