Background

Adele C. Oliva is the Founding Partner of 1315 Capital, a Philadelphia-based healthcare growth equity firm she founded in 2014 with Michael Koby. The firm is exclusively focused on commercial-stage healthcare companies and reports more than $1 billion in assets under management.

Before 1315 Capital, Oliva was recruited to Quaker Partners in 2007 to expand its growth-stage investing practice. Prior to Quaker, she was Co-Head of U.S. Healthcare at Apax Partners, where she spent a decade working in Silicon Valley and Manhattan. Earlier in her career, she worked at Baxter Healthcare and CoreStates.

Oliva entered private equity as a Kauffman Fellow and was a member of Fellows Class III from 1997 to 1999. She earned a BSc from Saint Joseph’s University and an MBA from Cornell University, where she received the Albert Fried Fellowship. Forbes previously recognized her on the Midas List, as a top life sciences investor, and among top women in venture capital.

She currently serves on the boards of 3B Scientific, Homestead Smart Health Plans, Innovative Health, miraDry, and Onkos Surgical. Her prior board roles include Ascent Healthcare Solutions, Colorescience, EKR Therapeutics, ESP Pharma, Esprit Pharma, Genoptix, Precision Dermatology, Prometheus Labs, and SkinMedica.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • 1315 Capital invests exclusively in healthcare growth equity and growth buyout opportunities, partnering with commercial-stage companies across healthcare services, pharma/medtech products, pharma/medtech outsourcing, and health & wellness.
  • The firm looks for “commercial-stage products and services with clear clinical or economic value,” evidence of product-market fit, durable customer adoption, recurring or repeatable revenue, growth through new markets/channels/customers, and leadership teams seeking an engaged partner.
  • Typical equity checks are $15 million to $50 million, targeting companies that can scale to $50 million to $200 million in revenue and that have strong margin potential with approximately -$10 million to $10 million of EBITDA at investment.
  • 1315 Capital is flexible on deal structure: minority growth equity, majority growth buyouts, and corporate carveouts are all in scope.
  • The firm’s stated value proposition emphasizes healthcare specialization, growth acceleration, practical support to management teams, and proprietary deal generation through business development, long-standing healthcare relationships, and proactive investment themes.
  • In healthcare services, 1315 looks for businesses that lower cost and complexity while improving outcomes; in pharma/medtech products, it backs commercial-stage products with proven clinical and economic value; in outsourcing, it backs specialized life sciences services platforms; in health & wellness, it selectively invests in clinically supported, professional-endorsed, attractive-unit-economics platforms.
