Alain Denis

Alain Denis is a Québec investment executive whose career has centered on venture capital, private equity, innovation financing, and strategic partnerships. As of 2026, Novacap identifies him as Senior Advisor, Government Affairs and Strategic Partnerships. Novacap describes itself as a North American private-equity investor focused on Technologies, Digital Infrastructure, Industries, and Financial Services, with more than C$16 billion in assets under management.

Denis spent many years at the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, where public records and Fonds press releases identify him in senior investment roles including Senior Vice-President, Innovation; Senior Vice-President, Investments; and Senior Vice-President, Investments - Venture Capital. A Canadian federal lobbying registration listed him as “Vice-président principal aux investissements - Capital de risque,” and Fonds releases show him speaking for the organization on venture capital, innovation, life sciences, agri-food, and direct/specialized-fund investments.

Before joining the Fonds in 2009, an Ecolomondo board biography says Denis founded and managed Services Financiers AJP, an asset-based lending company; was founding Vice-President, Business Development at Moxxi Medical; served as Director of Strategic Partnerships at Argo Global Capital, a wireless-communications-focused venture-capital firm; and was an executive officer at Microcell. The same biography says he previously worked as a Special Assistant to the Minister of Finance and Regional Development of Canada.

Denis holds an MBA from Laval and York Universities and a business degree from Laval University, according to the Ecolomondo biography. He has also served on multiple boards: Ecolomondo said he joined its board in October 2017 and later chaired its audit committee before resigning in January 2024; Montréal International listed him as a board member beginning in 2019; and Centech lists him as a board member and “Strategic Business Advisor.”

• Denis’s historical Fonds FTQ thesis emphasized Québec innovation across sectors, including both direct investments and specialized funds. In 2017, he said the Fonds would continue supporting innovation “in all sectors of our economy, either through direct investments or through specialized funds.”
• In life sciences, Denis framed the Fonds strategy around building Québec’s position in the global biotech and healthcare ecosystem. In the Genesys Ventures III announcement, he said the goal was to strengthen Québec’s foothold in the global life-sciences network and consolidate sector jobs.
• He has backed specialized funds as ecosystem multipliers, including Inovia, Genesys, Forbion, White Star Capital, and CTI Life Sciences-linked initiatives.
• He has shown a preference for companies that combine Québec roots with global-market potential: examples include Joseph Ribkoff, District M, Worximity, Searchlight Pharma, COLO-D, and Powerside.
• His comments repeatedly focus on productivity, digitization, Industry 4.0, life-sciences commercialization, international expansion, and keeping high-growth Québec companies anchored in the province.
