Background
Alan Weinfeld is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) with a career in alternative-investment fundraising, investor relations, and fund-of-funds investing dating to 1997. He earned a BA, magna cum laude, in Latin American Studies and Economics from Tulane University. He began his career at Franklin Templeton Investments, where he spent roughly 13 years holding several executive-level positions in the firm's Alternative Investments group, including investor relations and private-equity fundraising roles.
He subsequently became Managing Director and Head of Business Development at GoldPoint Partners, one of New York Life's private equity managers, where he oversaw the private credit and private equity fund-of-fund business. In October 2015, he joined New York–based Gatewood Capital Partners as a Partner, with primary responsibility for the firm's fundraising and marketing team. At Gatewood — a firm founded in 2014 that makes strategic seed and anchor investments in new and emerging alternative-asset managers — he played a key role in raising capital for Gatewood's sponsored and seeded fund relationships, bringing what was then over 17 years of dedicated fundraising and IR experience focused on private equity and mezzanine funds.
Around February 2020, Weinfeld left Gatewood to join Invesco Private Capital as an investment partner in the firm's private-equity fund-of-fund business, where he also serves on the Investment Committee. As of his most recent Invesco bio, he is a Senior Client Portfolio Manager in Invesco's Alternative Credit / Private Credit group, responsible for product development, structuring, and exploring new business opportunities. He is a member of the CFA Society.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Operates at the fund-manager level, not the operating-company level: seeds, anchors, and takes GP stakes in emerging private-fund managers rather than investing directly in startups.
- At Gatewood, the model centered on providing significant "first close" LP capital plus ongoing strategic support to managers launching institutional-grade funds — Gatewood describes itself as making "strategic seed and anchor investments in high-quality new and existing emerging managers."
- Strategy spans private equity, buyout, private credit, mezzanine, direct lending, growth equity, real estate, distressed/special situations, and secondaries, targeting managers typically below ~$2B AUM in North America and Western Europe.
- Gatewood also considers acquiring GP stakes in more established alternative managers with strong growth potential.
- Weinfeld's personal value-add has consistently been institutional fundraising, investor relations, and business development — i.e., helping managers raise and structure capital.
Notable Investments
- Weinfeld's deals are GP-stake and fund-seeding transactions in private-fund managers, which are largely non-public; specific named manager investments tied to him personally are not disclosed in public sources.
- Gatewood Capital Partners $75M Co-Investment and Warehousing Program (Dec 2024) — a firm initiative to support emerging managers (launched after his departure, but illustrative of the firm's strategy he helped build).
- Invesco Private Capital fund-of-funds — since 2020, he has invested in/committed to underlying private-equity and private-credit funds as part of Invesco's program and Investment Committee (specific fund commitments not publicly itemized).
