Background

Albert Shyy is a Managing Director within Eurazeo’s Venture team, based in Singapore. Eurazeo says he leads a US$200 million insurtech-focused fund targeting growth-stage opportunities across Asia, and ITC Asia 2026 lists him as serving on the boards of Igloo and InsuranceDekho.

Before joining Eurazeo in 2022, Shyy spent five years at Burda Principal Investments, where he led the Singapore office. Burda announced in March 2020 that he had been promoted to Managing Director Asia, responsible for deepening Burda Principal Investments’ Asia activity. At Burda, he led investments in Southeast Asia companies including Zilingo, Hmlet, and Carsome.

Earlier, Shyy was Principal at GREE Ventures, where he led investment activity in Southeast Asia and India and held board roles at portfolio companies including Kudo and Berrybenka. His operating experience includes Lazada Group, where Taiwan Startup Stadium describes him as helping build the marketplace business across the region, as well as co-founding AlbertMing Inc., an online menswear company in the United States.

Shyy completed his MBA at the University of California, Berkeley and his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Taiwan Startup Stadium specifies that his undergraduate degrees were in economics and systems engineering.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Shyy’s current Eurazeo mandate is growth-stage Asia insurtech. He wrote when joining Eurazeo that he was helping lead a “newly formed fund looking at growth stage opportunities in Asia/Southeast Asia, with a focus on the insurtech sector and its adjacencies.”
  • In Southeast Asia, he told e27/Creationsforu that Eurazeo is “looking at growth stage opportunities (Series B and C), with a typical cheque size of US$10-20 million+.”
  • The fund can lead or co-invest. Shyy said Eurazeo had led Qoala’s Series B round and that the fund could invest across APAC, with Southeast Asia as the primary focus.
  • His insurtech focus is tied to low insurance penetration and digital distribution. He has highlighted micro-insurance, D2C, agent-led, and embedded insurance models as ways to improve awareness, trial, and customer experience.
  • Eurazeo’s broader Venture strategy backs companies from early-stage to Series C in digital services and technologies, ecological transition, and healthcare, aiming to help turn companies into category leaders.
  • Earlier at Burda Principal Investments, Shyy’s focus was consumer internet and Series B growth capital in Southeast Asia, with a minimum check size of about US$5 million. He said Burda wanted “market leaders or those who can show market leadership in their country.”
