Background

Alemşah Öztürk is an Istanbul-based creative entrepreneur, agency founder, and angel investor. He studied computer engineering at Yıldız Technical University (Yıldız Polytechnic) and began his career as an art/creative director building award-winning websites for brands, reportedly becoming the youngest creative director in Turkey at age 24. In February 2007 he co-founded the digital advertising agency 41?29! (later branded 4129Grey), which within five years became one of the most awarded and successful digital agencies in Turkey, winning honors at Cannes Lions, Clio, D&AD, Golden Drum, the Webby Awards, and New York Festivals.

The agency's success attracted WPP, which acquired 41?29! into its network in 2012. After a 2015 merger with Grey Istanbul, the combined "4129Grey / GREY Turkey" operated as a fully integrated communications company under Öztürk's leadership, where he carried the title "Chief Happiness Officer" (also described as CEO/CCO). The operation was later folded into WPP's AKQA Istanbul (alongside Ogilvy Istanbul and Gram). Öztürk has served on international juries including Cannes Lions, D&AD (Gaming & Virtual Worlds, 2021 and 2024), Golden Drum, and New York Festivals, and has spoken at TEDx, Webrazzi Summit, Brand Week Istanbul, Startup Grind, and Istanbul Blockchain Week.

In parallel with the agency, Öztürk became an active founder and angel investor. Around 2010 he co-founded the daily-deals / social-shopping startup Grupanya (with Onur Yıldırım, Can Mustafa Köne and Baran Dilber), plus a social gaming company and a digital media-buying agency. He was selected as an Endeavor Entrepreneur in 2009 and was publicly cited as an exemplary Turkish entrepreneur by then-U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

More recently he has focused on Web3 and real-world-asset tokenization, founding Fractalized, a platform tokenizing maritime assets (it has promoted a tokenized tanker offering). His current LinkedIn positioning centers on Fractalized and on "helping founders shape how" they build, reflecting a shift toward design-founder and blockchain themes.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests as an individual angel at seed / early stage in Turkish startups, having backed 15+ companies and actively mentoring young founders.
  • Sector affinity mirrors his own operating history: digital consumer products, marketplaces and social commerce, gaming, marketing/creative technology, and increasingly blockchain / Web3 / RWA tokenization.
  • Adds value beyond capital in brand, marketing, and creative strategy — with Insider, for example, he "helped them with marketing activities and mentored their team."
  • Recent public writing signals interest in the "design founder" — founders who combine design/creative craft with product building.
  • Strong bias toward founders who can scale a Turkish company globally, consistent with his most successful bet (Insider).

Notable Investments

  • Insider (useinsider.com) — his earliest and biggest angel investment; a customer-experience / marketing-technology platform that became a global company (later a unicorn) backed by major VCs including Peak XV (Sequoia India/SEA) and Endeavor Catalyst. Öztürk was an early angel and marketing mentor.
  • Grupanya — daily-deals / social-shopping (group-buying) startup; co-founder, ~2010.
  • ArcadeMonk — startup listed among his angel investments.
  • Digital Bureau — startup listed among his angel investments.
  • CookUp.io — startup he joined/backed (welcomed as a team member/investor).
  • 41?29! / 4129Grey — his own agency venture (acquired by WPP, 2012).
