Background
Alessia Rigoni is an Italian finance executive whose investing career was spent at Principia SGR, one of the leading venture and growth capital management companies in Italy, founded in 2002 and headquartered in Milan. She served there as an Investment Manager from 2013 to 2021, sourcing and managing equity investments in Italian small- and mid-sized companies across the technology and healthcare sectors. Principia's funds targeted digital start-ups and expansion-capital opportunities (and, selectively, seed rounds), with a portfolio spanning software, IT/TMT, fintech, biotech and e-commerce.
She holds a degree in Economics and a Master's in Economics of Markets and Financial Institutions, both from Bocconi University in Milan. She began her professional career in financial roles at major multinationals, including JP Morgan Chase and PwC, before moving into venture and growth capital.
In July 2021 she left Principia SGR to join F2A (an Ardian-backed HR, payroll and finance-outsourcing group) as Head of M&A / M&A Director, reporting initially to CEO Raul Mattaboni. There she drove the group's acquisition-led expansion and post-deal integration during a period of roughly 30% annual revenue growth and multiple add-on acquisitions. After F2A became part of the SD Worx group, she was appointed Managing Director of SD Worx Italy on 13 January 2026, reporting to Patrick Barazzoni (EVP DACH, Nordics, CEE and Adriatic) and succeeding Raul Mattaboni, who became Chairman of the Board.
Note: while the source stub lists Rigoni as an active "Angel Investor" writing seed checks, the public record indicates her investing was done institutionally at Principia SGR and that she has worked in corporate M&A / operating leadership since 2021.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invested institutionally through Principia SGR, not as a personal angel — early-stage and expansion capital with occasional seed participation.
- Sectors: technology (business software, IT/TMT, fintech, e-commerce, digital entertainment, mobility) and healthcare / life sciences.
- Geography: focused on Italian SMEs and start-ups, backing companies capable of scaling their offering to meet market needs.
- Her later M&A work at F2A reflects the same lens she stated publicly: seeking "companies and SMEs capable of enhancing their offerings to address market needs" — a value-creation, growth-through-consolidation approach.
Notable Investments
- Docebo — cloud/AI learning-management SaaS; a Principia portfolio company that went on to IPO (TSX, later Nasdaq).
- ShopFully (DoveConviene) — Italian drive-to-store retail/e-commerce platform; a notable Principia growth investment.
- Compass Pathways — life-sciences/mental-health company associated with Principia's portfolio that reached a public listing.
- Principia's overall track record during this era included several IPOs and trade-sale exits across its tech and life-sciences holdings.
