Background

Alex Bean is a Partner and Owner at Plexus Capital, a Raleigh- and Charlotte-based lower middle-market investment firm founded in 2005. Plexus says he serves on the firm’s investment committee, heads the firm’s new deal execution effort, and is active in fundraising, sourcing new investment opportunities, and portfolio company oversight.

Bean joined Plexus in 2010 as an Associate and became a Partner during the 2015–2016 period, according to Plexus’s firm history. Before Plexus, he worked in the investment banking division of BB&T Capital Markets, now BB&T Securities, where he focused on sell-side M&A transactions and public equity offerings.

He graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. His public LinkedIn profile also lists prior service on the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Alumni Council from January 2017 to December 2023, and service on the North Carolina Investment Forum’s Distressed Communities Working Group from January 2018 to January 2019.

In October 2025, the Small Business Investor Alliance announced Bean as an at-large member of its 2025–2026 Board of Governors, representing Plexus Capital in North Carolina.
