Alex Ham

Alex Ham is one of the most prominent UK equity-capital-markets bankers of his generation. He joined Numis in August 2005, initially as an equity research analyst before moving into the Corporate Broking team, where he helped build the firm's retained corporate client base and equity capital markets franchise. He was appointed Head of Corporate Broking & Advisory (Head of Investment Banking) in May 2015 and, in September 2016, became Co-Chief Executive Officer of Numis Securities alongside Ross Mitchinson — the two sharing responsibility for the firm's strategy and day-to-day management while still in their thirties.

At Numis, Ham pioneered the firm's private growth capital business, advising fast-scaling private companies and working alongside global venture and crossover investors such as Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global; he has been associated with advising high-profile fintech names including Klarna and Nu Holdings. When Deutsche Bank completed its acquisition of Numis in October 2023 — rebranding the business as Deutsche Numis — Ham continued as Co-CEO, and in 2024 was tapped to lead Deutsche Bank's newly formed global private growth capital team.

In July 2025, Barclays announced it had hired Ham as Global Chairman of Investment Banking, a senior role intended to grow the bank's market share in advisory and equity capital markets, with him expected to join in early 2026. Alongside his banking career, Ham invests personally as an angel, a sideline he began in 2018. Public biographical sources do not disclose details of his university education.
