Alex Weiss

Alex Weiss is the CEO, a Co-Founder, and a Managing Partner of ClearSky, a venture capital and growth-equity firm he helped launch in 2012. He also sits on the firm's Investment Committee. ClearSky manages roughly $1 billion in committed capital across a dual-fund structure — ClearSky Security and ClearSky Power & Technology — investing at the intersection of digital security and the energy transition.

Before ClearSky, Weiss was Vice President and Chief Investment Officer at NextEra Energy, where he co-headed the company's venture capital investment effort and shared responsibility for investment decisions and fund management across more than $10 billion of invested financial assets. Earlier in his career he was a Vice President at Morgan Stanley and a Managing Director at both Smith Barney and Paine Webber, accumulating over 20 years of experience with private equity and venture capital funds. His transaction background spans investing, equity raising, M&A, leveraged recapitalizations, and restructurings.

Weiss holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Boston University and an M.B.A. in Finance from Columbia University. He is an active board member across ClearSky's portfolio, currently serving as a director of Authentic8, ClimateTrade, Diamanti, EdgeQ, Fortress Information Security, Guardz, Mainspring Energy, Mitiga Security, and Ubicquia. He is also a board observer for Human Security and an advisory board member of Cresset Capital Management.
