Background
Alli Murdoff is a co-founder and Partner at Section Partners, a Palo Alto–based financing firm she helped launch in 2016 alongside Dave Crowder, Amrith Ravi and Mow Wong. Rather than a traditional early-stage venture fund, Section Partners provides "personal capital" and structured financing solutions — including option-exercise financing, secondary liquidity and primary capital — to founders, executives and shareholders of late-stage, venture-backed technology companies. At the firm, Murdoff has led marketing, communications, human capital, events and investor relations, functions that support a platform managing over $550 million in committed capital across a portfolio touching 75+ companies.
Before Section Partners, Murdoff held comparable marketing, communications and investor-relations roles at investment banking, venture capital and consulting firms, giving her a long career at the intersection of finance and firm-building. Section Partners' broader portfolio exposure has historically included many marquee venture names, though these are firm-level positions rather than personal angel investments.
Beyond her investment work, Murdoff is a nonprofit founder and leader. Her daughter Charlotte was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right femur shortly before turning 15 and died of the disease in 2021 during her senior year of high school. In Charlotte's memory, Murdoff co-founded Battle Osteosarcoma, a Bay Area organization that funds research to improve treatment options for the rare bone cancer, and she serves as a Trustee of The Osteosarcoma Institute (OSI).
In April 2026, Murdoff stepped into a newly created, full-time role as Executive Director of The Osteosarcoma Institute, where she now leads day-to-day operations and works with the Trustees, Strategic Advisory Board and research partners to advance the institute's scientific priorities and expand its funding and visibility — while continuing her association with Section Partners.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Section Partners is not a conventional seed or angel investor; it invests in and lends against equity in established, late/growth-stage venture-backed private technology companies.
- The firm's core proposition is providing personal liquidity and financing to company-builders — founders, executives and long-tenured shareholders — via structured financing contracts, option-exercise financing, secondary share purchases and occasional primary participation in rounds.
- Says "yes" where there is a high-quality, venture-backed private company and a stakeholder who needs liquidity or financing against illiquid equity; the firm underwrites the underlying company's quality as much as the individual.
- Murdoff's personal remit centers on the firm's relationships, brand and investor base (marketing, communications, human capital and investor relations) rather than sourcing individual deals — a warm, relationship-first orientation.
