Background
Amanda Eilian is a co-founder and Partner of Able Partners, a women-led, early-stage venture fund focused on the "Positive Living" space — health and wellness across body, mind, home, and community. She and co-founder Lisa Blau built the firm around what they call "The Wellness Gap": the widening divergence between rising GDP and stagnant or declining physical and mental health metrics over the past two decades. Able has backed 50–70+ companies, including publicly traded names such as Bumble (NASDAQ: BMBL), Compass Pathways (NASDAQ: CMPS), and ATAI Life Sciences (NASDAQ: ATAI). Amanda has been actively investing in early-stage consumer companies for over a decade.
Before venture, Amanda was an operator. She co-founded Videolicious, an enterprise video-creation software platform backed by Amazon, and served as its President until it was acquired by Squarespace (NYSE: SQSP). Under her leadership, Videolicious grew to more than 5 million users across 103 countries, with Fortune 500 customers including IBM, Walmart, SAP, Verizon, and GE. Prior to Videolicious, she was a founding partner of Capitol Acquisition Corporation, a SPAC that completed a $265 million IPO and became Two Harbors Investment Corp. (NYSE: TWO), a mortgage REIT that grew to multiple billions in market capitalization. She began her career in private equity and mergers & acquisitions.
Amanda graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service with honors in economics, and earned her MBA from Harvard Business School, where she was a Baker Scholar. She is also a Truman Scholar and has served on boards including Juice Beauty and the Melanoma Research Alliance. Her operator-turned-investor path — "trying just about everything else in finance" before catching the entrepreneurial bug — informs her hands-on approach with founders.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Thesis — "The Wellness Gap": Able invests around the divergence between rising GDP and worsening physical/mental health, betting that consumer behavior is undergoing a long-term shift toward "better-for-you" products and services. She frames proactive health as "a new living standard, not a temporary trend."
- Stage & checks: Primarily seed and Series A, opportunistically pre-seed; initial checks typically ~$300K–$1M with follow-on capacity as companies scale.
- Sectors: Consumer health & wellness across Body, Mind, Home, and Community — including mental health, longevity, sexual wellness, and psychedelic therapeutics. She deliberately uses Able's non-institutional capital to back founders in stigmatized categories (e.g., sexual wellness, psychedelics) that traditional funds avoid.
- What makes her say yes: Authentic founder/problem fit and deep personal connection to the problem; vision paired with adaptability; ability to attract top talent; grit and persistence; strong consumer unit economics (CAC, retention, willingness to pay); and differentiated go-to-market.
- In wellness specifically, she prioritizes products "grounded in science and validated data," authentic founder connection, the ability to inspire lasting behavior change, and accessibility beyond affluent early adopters.
