Background
Amaury Fonseca Junior is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of Vision Brazil Investments, an independent São Paulo–based alternative-asset manager he established in the mid-2000s (most sources cite 2003–2006). Before founding Vision, he was a co-founder, partner and CIO of Capitânia Asset & Risk Management, one of Brazil's structured-credit specialists.
His earlier career was on the trading and treasury side of global investment banks operating in Brazil. He served as Managing Director, Head Trader and Treasurer for Bank of America in Brazil, and before that as Head of Brazilian FX & Derivatives Market Making and Head of Brazilian Fixed Income at JPMorgan — roles that grounded Vision's later emphasis on credit, derivatives structuring and special situations.
Academically, Amaury holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master's degree, both from PUC-Rio (PUC-RJ), and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Beyond Vision, he sits on the Advisory Board of Cedar Bridge Partners, a private-equity firm focused on the Middle East and North Africa, and holds seats on the boards of directors of several companies.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Focuses on alternative investments in Brazil — "origination, structuring, and management of investments in high-yield, special situations and real assets."
- Core verticals: structured/distressed credit (legal claims, restructured government debt, non-performing loans, *precatórios*), agribusiness (the firm reports managing 300,000+ hectares), renewable energy, and real estate; more recently blockchain/data ventures.
- Builds and finances real-asset platforms rather than passive minority stakes — e.g., assembling agricultural land, ethanol production, and renewable-energy assets.
- Capital is sourced ~95%+ from institutions — family offices, pension funds, hedge funds and PE investors across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia — so deals are structured to institutional-grade standards.
Notable Investments
- Vital Renewable Energy Company (VREC) — Brazilian sugar-cane ethanol, sugar and co-generation platform; Vision Brazil led the structuring of a large international financing consortium (led by Paladin Capital Group, targeting >US$1 billion), and Vision-advised funds also invested. Built its first plant in São Paulo state in partnership with Grupo Farias.
- Agribusiness / agricultural land — Vision controls and manages 300,000+ hectares of farmland and related agricultural-credit assets in Brazil.
- Dadosfera (formerly DataSprints) — Brazilian data/AI startup; listed as a Vision Brazil portfolio connection (early-stage exposure).
