Amit Jain

Amit Jain leads The Carlyle Group's India private-equity business as Managing Director and Head of Carlyle India Advisors, a role he took up in November 2021 when Carlyle recruited him as co-head of its India investment advisory team. He oversees Carlyle's India operations and portfolio-company activity across the technology, consumer, advanced-manufacturing and industrial sectors, and sits on the boards of Indian portfolio companies including Varmora Granito, VLCC, Viyash Life Sciences and Quest Global.

Before Carlyle, Jain spent roughly a decade (c. 2010/2011–2021) at Blackstone in India, where he rose to Senior Managing Director in the Private Equity Group and was made a Blackstone partner effective January 1, 2020. There he focused on control and growth investments across consumer, healthcare, auto, telecom, packaging and parts of financial services, and served on the boards of companies such as EPL (formerly Essel Propack), Aakash Educational Services, Sona BLW Precision Forgings, FINO Payments Bank and CMS Info Systems.

Earlier in his career, Jain was a consultant at McKinsey & Company, where he focused on infrastructure and financial-services projects in India, and he began his career in operating roles at Unilever in India — an operator-then-investor background he brings to portfolio value creation. He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur (class of 2003) and an MBA from the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad. He was named to The Economic Times' "40 Under 40" list of young business leaders in 2019 and has served on the executive committee of the Indian Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (IVCA).
