Background

Andrea Finegan has roughly three decades of experience in infrastructure finance and asset management, spanning lending, advisory and fund management roles across European financial institutions. She began her career in the project finance teams at Deutsche Bank in London and Frankfurt, then moved to Barclays Capital as an Assistant Director in the Infrastructure Advisory team, advising public- and private-sector clients across telecoms, utilities and PFI. From 1999 to 2007 she was Head of Asset Management at Innisfree, responsible for infrastructure assets across five funds, and she subsequently helped set up funds and asset-management functions at Climate Change Capital and ING Infrastructure Funds.

In 2012 she joined Greencoat Capital LLP to help set up and launch Greencoat UK Wind PLC — the renewable-infrastructure investment trust that listed in 2013 — and served as the firm's Chief Operating Officer until 2018. She remains the independent Chair of the Greencoat (now Schroders Greencoat) Valuation Committees. Alongside this she sits on the boards of listed infrastructure vehicles: she is a Non-Executive Director of Pantheon Infrastructure PLC (from 2021) and has acted as a consultant to the Sequoia Economic Infrastructure Income Fund, a FTSE 250 investment trust.

Andrea has been an active angel/start-up investor since around 2011, building a personal portfolio focused on ESG and educational businesses. She has been a Non-Executive Director of Anglia Angels Ltd. since 2016 and is a Shareholder and Board Observer with Anglia Capital Group, an East of England business-angel network. She has also led a campaign at Anglia Capital Group encouraging more women to become angel investors and to back more female-founded businesses.

She holds a BA (Hons) in Business Administration with a modern language from Loughborough University (1991) and an MBA in Strategic Carbon Management (distinction, 2010) from the University of East Anglia, where she is also an Associate Tutor teaching MBA valuation, corporate sustainability and renewable/wind-energy engineering. She is a Fellow of both the Institute of Directors and the Higher Education Academy, a Trustee of the Earlham Institute, and contributed to the Cambridge University Press *Handbook of Institutional Investment and Fiduciary Duty* (2014).

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests at seed and early growth stage, primarily through the Anglia Capital Group business-angel network in the East of England (Norfolk & Suffolk).
  • Personal portfolio is concentrated on ESG / sustainability and education-focused businesses, reflecting her background in renewable energy, carbon management and responsible investment.
  • Works hands-on as an investor director / board observer rather than a purely passive backer — she brings governance, valuation and infrastructure-finance discipline to portfolio companies.
  • Aligned with the wider Anglia thesis of backing "innovative and potentially disruptive solutions" in food, agri-tech, biotech, specialist engineering and energy, often supporting university spinouts and regional ventures.
  • A vocal advocate for diversity in angel investing, actively campaigning to bring more women into angel investing and to fund more female-founded companies.

Notable Investments

  • Public, company-level detail on Andrea Finegan's individual angel tickets is not disclosed; her stated portfolio focuses on ESG and educational businesses, where she has served as an investor director.
  • Through Anglia Capital Group, her deals sit within the network's broader activity — 70+ investments and £9m+ deployed across East of England start-ups (individual portfolio companies are not individually attributed to her publicly).
  • Greencoat UK Wind PLC (2013 IPO) — while an institutional rather than angel deal, she helped launch and operate this renewable-infrastructure investment trust, one of the UK's flagship listed wind funds.
