Background

Andrea Pescatori is the founder and CEO of Ver Capital SGR, a Milan-based asset management firm specializing in European corporate credit. Before founding Ver Capital, he accumulated roughly 15 years of experience in fixed income and capital markets at Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Hill Samuel and Finprogetti. He holds an MBA from SDA Bocconi University in Milan and graduated *magna cum laude* in Economics from La Sapienza University in Rome.

Under his leadership, Ver Capital built a platform operating across four business areas — European high yield, European leveraged loans, private debt, and special situations — managing on the order of €500m each in private debt and leveraged loans, plus roughly €300m in liquid strategies. The firm positioned itself as a specialist in Italy's growing private-credit and "shadow banking" opportunity, financing mid-market corporates as banks retreated from medium-term lending.

In April 2024, Pescatori and Ver Capital's other shareholders/top managers sold their entire stake to Sienna Investment Managers, the French alternatives arm of the Groupe Bruxelles Lambert ecosystem, while reinvesting part of the proceeds into the entity controlling Sienna Private Credit. The deal gave the combined group roughly €3bn in private-debt AUM and marked Sienna's entry into the Italian market. Pescatori continues to lead the Italian business (Ver Capital / Sienna Investment Managers Italia SGR) and brings his network of Italian investors to Sienna's leadership.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in corporate credit, not equity: European leveraged loans, high-yield bonds, private debt, special situations, and energy-transition financing.
  • Focused on the Italian private-credit gap created by banks pulling back from medium-term financing — what he frames as significant growth potential in Italy's "shadow banking" sector.
  • Sees private credit as "increasingly attractive due to rising interest rates," and argues Italy's insolvency-law reforms have made "the country one of the most investor-friendly in Europe."
  • Acknowledges the democratization of private credit still lags private equity, citing "lack of penetration and awareness" — a theme he has championed at wealth-management and IPEM panels.
  • Targets institutional and increasingly wealth/private-bank investors across Italy and France, leveraging the combined Sienna–Ver Capital platform.

Notable Investments

  • Ver Capital private debt strategy — ~€500m financing Italian mid-market corporates.
  • European leveraged loan strategy — ~€500m in broadly syndicated European loans.
  • European high-yield / liquid credit strategies — ~€300m.
  • Special situations and energy-transition credit — distressed/opportunistic and transition-themed corporate debt.
  • Sienna Investment Managers transaction (April 2024) — sale of Ver Capital to Sienna, creating a combined ~€3bn private-debt platform across Italy and France (the most material "deal" of his career as a principal).
