Background

Andrew Bridge is a co-founder of BrandProject, the Toronto-based consumer-brand studio and venture firm launched in 2013 alongside former Virgin Mobile Canada CEO Andrew Black, technology entrepreneur Jay Bhatti, and Stanley Hainsworth (former VP of global creative at Starbucks). Within the partnership, Bridge has focused on marketing and operations — working hands-on with founders on branding, positioning, and go-to-market strategy — essentially acting as a "de facto co-founder" to portfolio companies, which is the model BrandProject markets to entrepreneurs.

Bridge is an operator-turned-investor with more than 20 years of global strategy, marketing, and brand-innovation experience. He began his career in marketing roles at Cadbury Schweppes in both Canada and the U.S., then moved to Diageo, where he held strategy and brand-management roles in the Spirits and Wine division. As Global Marketing Director for the Smirnoff brand, he supported the launch of Smirnoff Ice across 44 countries in under two years. He subsequently led brand and communications at Virgin Mobile Canada, helping launch and scale the company from zero into a major national mobile carrier — the operating experience that connected him with co-founder Andrew Black.

He holds a Bachelor's degree from Queen's University and an MBA from Southern Methodist University (Cox School of Business). In 2023, BrandProject formalized its investing activity by raising its first dedicated venture fund of roughly $54 million, expanding beyond the studio model that had produced its earliest wins.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in "founders building category-defining consumer companies grounded in real consumer insight," under the firm banner of *"partnering with visionary founders, building iconic brands that people love."*
  • Concentrates on early stages — pre-seed through Series A — and typically leads rounds with checks in the ~$500K–$3M range.
  • Targets digitally enabled / direct-to-consumer brands across food & beverage, health & wellness, supplements, beauty & personal care, pet, home & lifestyle, and multi-unit retail.
  • Differentiator: BrandProject pairs capital with deep operating support, positioning former senior operators from iconic consumer brands (LEGO, Virgin Mobile, Starbucks) as hands-on partners on brand, marketing, and operations — Bridge's own lane.
  • Prefers companies still early on revenue ($0–$10M) where brand-building and go-to-market execution can be decisive.
