Background

Andrew Ciuffetelli is a finance and operations executive whose career has centered on consumer-products businesses. He earned a B.S. (Honors) in Finance & Accounting from Clemson University (2000–2004) and began his career at Procter & Gamble in June 2004, spending roughly twelve years there in a range of financial-management and commercial roles. His time at P&G culminated in the carve-out of the Duracell battery business from Procter & Gamble and its sale to Berkshire Hathaway.

He then spent about five years at The Duracell Company (a Berkshire Hathaway company) in senior leadership roles, most recently serving as Chief Financial Officer for North America and Global Supply Chain — direct experience running the finance and supply-chain functions of a standalone consumer-products business created through a corporate carve-out.

In 2019 Ciuffetelli joined Brynwood Partners, an operationally focused private equity firm founded in 1984 and based in Greenwich, CT, which specializes in control investments in lower-middle-market consumer businesses and has become a "firm of choice" for corporate sellers exiting orphan brands. He served as Principal (Sept. 2019–Feb. 2021) and then as Managing Director (from Feb. 2021), sitting on the firm's Investment Committee and on the boards of Brynwood portfolio companies while supporting their Finance, Accounting and IT functions.

In 2025 he moved to Gryphon Investors, a San Francisco–based middle-market private equity firm, joining its Operations Resources Group and Finance & Accounting team as a Managing Director. In that role he helps portfolio companies implement best practices across finance, tax, accounting, IT and regulatory compliance, with a stated focus on scalability, efficiency and control.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Operating-value creation, not venture bets. Ciuffetelli's role is on the operations/finance side of control-buyout investing — improving the finance, accounting, IT and supply-chain functions of acquired businesses to drive sales growth and margin improvement.
  • Consumer brands and carve-outs (Brynwood). Brynwood's model is buying established consumer brands — often corporate "orphans" divested by large CPG companies — in the ~$25M–$500M enterprise-value range, then professionalizing and growing them.
  • Middle-market operational scaling (Gryphon). At Gryphon he supports portfolio companies on "scalability, efficiency and control" across finance, tax, accounting, IT and compliance.
  • Background as an edge: deep operating experience (P&G finance, Duracell CFO for North America / Global Supply Chain, and the Duracell carve-out to Berkshire Hathaway) informs his hands-on, post-close value-creation orientation rather than early-stage deal sourcing.

Notable Investments

  • Hometown Food Company — Brynwood platform formed in 2018 to acquire the Pillsbury shelf-stable baking business, Hungry Jack, Martha White, White Lily, Funfetti and Jim Dandy from The J.M. Smucker Company for ~$375M.
  • Arrowhead Mills — organic/natural baking brand acquired by Hometown from Hain Celestial in 2019.
  • De Wafelbakkers — frozen pancake maker merged into Hometown in 2022.
  • Birch Benders — pancake/waffle mix brand acquired by Hometown from Sovos Brands in 2023.
  • Chef Boyardee — iconic canned-pasta brand; Hometown agreed to acquire it from Conagra Brands in 2025.
  • Juicy Juice — children's juice brand Brynwood acquired from Nestlé in 2014 (predates his tenure but a core Brynwood consumer holding).
  • Other Brynwood holdings during the period include Harvest Hill Beverage Company, Carolina Beverage Group, Great Kitchens Food Company, West Madison Foods and Miracapo Pizza Company.
