Background

Andrew Galloway is a London-based corporate-finance banker and investor best known as a co-founder of West Hill Corporate Finance and a partner/co-founder at West Hill Capital. His LinkedIn profile lists West Hill Corporate Finance as his current firm and University of Oxford as his education, with attendance from 1975 to 1979.

His earlier career was in corporate finance in the City of London, including roles at Samuel Montagu and HSBC. Teatro San Cassiano’s profile of Galloway says he worked at Samuel Montagu and HSBC before co-founding West Hill Corporate Finance in 2003 as an independent advisory firm and venture-capital business raising growth capital for earlier-stage technology, financial-services, and other-sector companies.

Contemporary press coverage from 2003 described him as a former senior investment banker at HSBC who launched West Hill Corporate Finance after leaving HSBC in 2002. City A.M. later described West Hill as a corporate-finance boutique set up by former HSBC banker Andrew Galloway with former James Capel analyst Alan Richards, and said Galloway had initiated deals with insurance groups including Willis, Brit, and Omega/Canopius.

West Hill Capital was established as a capital-raising arm for smaller and growth companies, with a focus on EIS/SEIS-eligible venture deals. The firm describes itself as providing institutional, corporate, and private investors access to pioneering technology businesses and says West Hill has advised on more than £20 billion of financial transactions.

  • Galloway’s own deal history is especially strong in financial services and insurance: City A.M. reported his involvement in deals with Willis, Brit, Omega/Canopius, and Quotall; West Hill’s SOBC case study says he was the lead investor in the SOBC funding round, personally invested 10% of the funding, and joined the company’s board before its sale.
