Andriy Shapowal

Andriy Shapowal is a Partner and, since summer 2021, Co-Chief Investment Officer of Investure, LLC, the Charlottesville, Virginia–based outsourced investment office that manages roughly $22 billion (as of early 2026) on behalf of a select group of college endowments and private foundations. He joined Investure in January 2011 as a partner and, before his promotion to Co-CIO, led the firm's manager-selection effort as Head of Manager Selection — the function responsible for identifying, underwriting, and monitoring the external fund managers Investure allocates to across asset classes.

Before Investure, Shapowal was a Managing Director at the University of Virginia Investment Management Company (UVIMCO), where he was responsible for UVIMCO's equity and hedge fund portfolios. Earlier in his career he was a member of the investment team at JPMorgan Partners and its predecessor firm, Chase Capital Partners, participating in a range of direct public and private equity investments — giving him direct-investing experience alongside his later allocator/manager-selection roles.

Shapowal earned a BS with highest honors from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business. According to his firm bio, he also competed internationally as a U.S. national team soccer player during the 1990s.

At Investure, he works within an independent, employee-owned firm (founded in 2003, led by CEO Bruce Miller) that pioneered the full-service outsourced investment office model — handling asset allocation, manager selection, and full back-office support for a small, shared client base rather than running a conventional startup venture portfolio.

• Invests as an institutional allocator (LP/OCIO), not a direct angel/venture investor — the core activity is manager selection and total-portfolio construction for endowments and foundations.
• Allocates across multiple asset classes: global public equities, hedge funds, private equity, private credit, fixed income, and other alternatives.
• Emphasis on a shared, high-conviction manager roster: Investure pools a small number of clients so it can access and concentrate with top-tier external managers globally.

• Note: no publicly stated personal "seed check" thesis exists — direct-startup framing does not fit Investure's model.
