Anil Dua

Anil Dua is one of the four founders of Gateway Partners, a private equity and private credit manager established in 2014 to invest across dynamic growth markets in Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and Southeast Asia. He is a seasoned finance professional with close to five decades of experience and particularly deep relationships across Africa. At Gateway he sits alongside co-founder V. Shankar (Group CEO), the former Standard Chartered Plc board member and CEO for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Americas.

Before Gateway, Anil spent over 35 years at Standard Chartered Bank, based across Africa, Asia, the USA and Europe. His senior leadership roles there included Chief Executive Officer for West Africa, Regional Head of Origination and Client Coverage for Africa, and Global Head of Project & Structured (Export) Finance. His career spanned portfolio and risk management, structured trade finance, and both wholesale and retail banking — a background that maps directly onto Gateway's emphasis on trade, credit and growth capital in frontier and emerging markets.

Anil holds a Master's degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics. He is an active non-executive director, and over his career has served on the boards of Cassava Technologies (the pan-African technology group), African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank, since 2010), First Bank of Nigeria, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Network International, Forte Oil plc (from 2015), and — until a 2025 ownership change — Geregu Power Plc in Nigeria.

Gateway Partners is registered in the Cayman Islands, with its management companies regulated by the MAS in Singapore and the DFSA in the Dubai International Financial Centre. In recent years Japan's SBI Holdings acquired an equity stake in the firm, reflecting its institutional footprint.
