Background
Dame Anne Glover (born 6 February 1954) co-founded Amadeus Capital Partners in 1997 with Cambridge technologist Hermann Hauser, and has served as its Chief Executive ever since. Under her leadership Amadeus has raised more than $1 billion and backed over 190 companies, positioning itself as one of Europe's longest-standing deep-technology venture firms. She brings more than 30 years of venture capital experience, including roughly 15 years investing in emerging markets.
Her career began outside finance: she worked in manufacturing at Cummins Engine Company in the United States and spent about five years as a manager and strategy consultant at Bain & Company in Boston. She returned to the UK to join Apax Partners in 1989, investing in early-stage companies, then became Chief Operating Officer of investee company Virtuality Group plc — a virtual-reality peripherals business — after its 1993 listing on the London Stock Exchange. She subsequently invested as a business angel before founding Amadeus.
Glover holds an MA in Metallurgy & Materials Science from Clare College, Cambridge, and a Master's in Public and Private Management from the Yale School of Management. Her honors include a CBE (2006) for services to business, election as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (2008), Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (2021), an Honorary Fellowship of Clare College (2023), and appointment as Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2025 King's Birthday Honours for services to business, science and technology.
Beyond Amadeus she is a widely recognized figure in the venture ecosystem and public policy. She is a Non-Executive Director of the Court (board) of the Bank of England (since 2018), a member of the Yale Corporation Investment Committee (since 2019), and an external member of the Venture Capital Investment Committee of British International Investment (since 2021). She is a former Chairman of both the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (2004/05) and Invest Europe/EVCA (2014/15). She also sits on the investment committee of APEX Ventures, with which Amadeus has partnered on European deep tech.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Deep tech and hard science first. Amadeus backs companies with "exceptional IP" — strong, defensible science and engineering — across AI/ML, quantum, semiconductors, cybersecurity and digital health, framed by the firm as investing across "Intelligence, Human and Planet."
- Full-lifecycle capital. Three parallel strategies: (1) seed/start-up/scale-up capital for early-stage IP-rich companies based in or growing from the UK; (2) primary and secondary investments in high-growth technology companies; and (3) growth capital for tech-enabled consumer and business services in emerging markets.
- Europe's deep-tech opportunity. Glover argues Europe has a genuine chance to lead in deep tech; she has publicly championed quantum computing, health tech and cybersecurity as priority areas.
- AI as a structural shift. She has warned that AI "will turn some SaaS providers into dinosaurs" and has drawn parallels between today's AI boom and the frenzied rise of the internet — a signal she looks for founders building durable, defensible technology rather than riding hype.
- Patient, science-backed conviction. Her background in metallurgy/materials science and her long emerging-markets experience underpin a preference for technically deep teams and long-horizon value creation.
