Background

Anthony Leatham is Head of Investment Companies Research at Peel Hunt LLP, where he joined in 2015 from Investec Wealth & Investment to help build Peel Hunt’s Investment Companies business. Peel Hunt describes its Investment Companies team as covering more than 40 companies under formal research coverage and producing value-add research, roadshows, conferences, quantitative screens and valuation commentary for fund selectors and investors.

Before Peel Hunt, Leatham spent ten years at Investec Wealth & Investment. For the last eight of those years he worked in the Funds Research team, covering global, sector specialist, US, European and emerging-market equity funds across both open-ended and closed-ended structures. Peel Hunt also says he contributed to fund portfolio construction and risk management while at Investec.

Earlier in his career, Leatham spent five years as a regulatory consultant at Deloitte, advising asset managers and investment banks. LinkedIn lists his education as The University of Edinburgh from 1996 to 2000.

The stub description of him as an “Angel Investors” seed-stage investor is not supported by the sources found. The verifiable public record points to a UK investment-company research analyst and listed-fund specialist rather than a startup angel investor.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Focuses on listed investment companies and investment trusts, especially where the closed-end structure can create opportunities through discounts, buybacks, liquidity, dividend quality, and differentiated access to asset classes.
  • Peel Hunt says his team’s research is tailored for fund selectors and investors, with formal coverage across equity and alternative investment-company sectors.
  • In January 2026, he said: “We are positive on private markets, particularly private equity,” citing improving realisation activity and falling interest rates as supportive.
  • In the same January 2026 Investment Week piece, he said Peel Hunt favoured investment trusts “given the current discounts,” especially while buybacks and capital-allocation policies were increasing.
  • In AIC commentary, he has emphasized shareholder communication and retail engagement, saying more investment trusts are using integrated campaigns across advertising, PR, social, digital media, reports and factsheets.
  • In 2024, AIC coverage of Peel Hunt research said Leatham and Markuz Jaffe saw opportunities in out-of-favour listed funds after sector-wide discount widening, particularly in alternative funds such as infrastructure, renewables and property.
  • His work is not a disclosed seed or venture-investment mandate; it is public-market fund research and investment-company analysis.
