Background

Anthony J. Orazio is a Partner at Parthenon Capital Partners, a growth-focused private equity firm founded in 1998 with offices in Boston, San Francisco, and Austin. He is based in the firm's Boston office, where he is active in sourcing, evaluating, and executing new investment opportunities and works with existing portfolio companies on strategic initiatives. He joined Parthenon in 2014 and was promoted to Partner effective January 3, 2022.

Before Parthenon, Orazio built a career in financial-services investing and advisory. He was an investment professional at Oak Hill Capital Partners, working within its business & financial services industry group. Earlier, he worked in the investment banking group at Blackstone (whose advisory business is now PJT Partners), focused on the financial services industry, and he also spent time at BESCAP, a private equity firm dedicated to financial services. This consistent financial-services thread runs through his entire career.

He earned his B.A. in Economics, with Honors, from Swarthmore College.

At Parthenon, Orazio has concentrated on the firm's financial and insurance services investments, with particular depth in wealth management, trust & custody, and insurance. Co-CEO Brian Golson credited him with "consistently demonstrat[ing] excellence in target sectors including wealth management, trust & custody, and insurance," and Co-CEO Dave Ament noted he "played a significant role in a number of our most successful investments including Millennium Trust, Allworth Financial, EdgeCo Holdings and MRO." He serves or has served on the boards of Allworth Financial, Cherry Bekaert, Choreo, EdgeCo Holdings, Libra Solutions, Millennium Trust Company, MRO, Titan Wealth, and Venbrook Group.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests as a control/growth private equity investor in established mid-market companies — typically enterprise values of ~$75M–$750M — rather than early-stage startups.
  • Deep specialization in financial services: wealth management / RIAs, retirement and trust & custody platforms, insurance brokerage and services; part of Parthenon's broader thesis across financial services, healthcare services, and business services.
  • Backs companies that can become market leaders via a combination of organic growth and add-on acquisitions ("buy-and-build" consolidation), with Parthenon providing strategy, operations, human-capital, and M&A support.
  • Parthenon describes itself as a "research-driven" partner that collaborates with management to "build franchise companies in high-growth and emerging market subsectors" without day-to-day operational control — an investor looking for strong existing management teams to back.

Notable Investments

  • Millennium Trust Company — retirement, custody, and trust fintech platform; one of Parthenon's flagship financial-services investments (later combined with PayFlex to form Inspira Financial).
  • Allworth Financial — national registered investment advisor / wealth-management firm.
  • EdgeCo Holdings — retirement and wealth technology and services platform.
  • MRO — clinical-data exchange and health-information management company (healthcare/business services).
  • Choreo — wealth-management RIA serving high-net-worth clients.
  • Cherry Bekaert — national accounting and advisory firm.
  • Libra Solutions — specialty finance in the medical/legal lien space.
  • Titan Wealth — UK-based wealth-management consolidation platform.
  • Venbrook Group — insurance brokerage and services company.
