Background
Antoine Boulin is a co-founder and Managing Partner of Red River West, a transatlantic venture capital firm he launched in 2017 alongside Alfred Véricel, with backing from the Artémis Group (the Pinault family holding). He brings more than 20 years of leadership in the digital industry, with cross-border P&L responsibility across both Fortune 500 companies and startups on either side of the Atlantic. He holds an MBA from ESSEC Business School in Paris (1997–2000).
Boulin's operating career centered on Bestofmedia, a French digital-media company. In 2007 he launched its US branch, and within three years the US market grew to contribute over 50% of the company's revenue. He and Alfred Véricel (as CEO) then merged Bestofmedia with the US-based TechMedia Network to form Purch, a technology-news leader that surpassed CNET in audience with over 100 million monthly readers. As President of Purch's media division, Boulin managed a team of roughly 200 people across five countries, completed three acquisitions and multiple strategic partnerships, and drove over $50M in revenue before the group was exited.
Having personally navigated the difficult transatlantic expansion, Boulin and Véricel built Red River West specifically to solve that problem for other European founders — positioning the firm as one of the few European VCs with multiple partners physically based in the US. As a Managing/Founding Partner, Boulin represents Red River West on the boards of Ada (health tech), Worldia and Le Collectionist (travel tech), WeMaintain (proptech), and iObeya (future of work); he also sat on the board of Data Impact until its acquisition by Nielsen (NielsenIQ) in 2021.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in the "most disruptive French/EU tech businesses" and aims to scale them "into global champions via a commercial launch and game-changing level of hands-on support in the US."
- Positions Red River West as "the only European VC fund with multiple partners based in the US," making hands-on US go-to-market support — not just capital — the core value proposition.
- Concentrated portfolio strategy: roughly ~10 investments per fund so each company gets dedicated partner attention and operational help.
- Stage/check: primarily Series A and growth-stage rounds, with checks generally in the €10M–€50M range; the firm often leads or co-leads.
- Sector-agnostic across tech (health tech, travel/proptech, future of work, deep tech/space, AI, B2B SaaS), with a stated interest in ethical technology, people well-being, and carbon reduction.
- The clearest "yes" signal: a European company with strong domestic traction and genuine ambition (and readiness) to win in the US market.
