Background
Antoine Fine is a Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Eutopia, a Paris- and New York-based early-stage venture capital fund backing mission-driven consumer brands. He graduated from HEC Paris in 2003 and spent roughly seven years in private equity at Lazard, beginning in 2003 as an analyst on Lazard's Midcap LBO funds and being promoted to Investment Director in 2006, where he oversaw around fifteen deals and monitored portfolio companies through to exit. He has written candidly that the private-equity years left him unsatisfied — feeling he had "one foot towards my ambitions, whilst the other dragged behind me with my values."
Following the 2008 financial crisis and a personal reset, Fine took a sabbatical in 2010, traveling the Mediterranean coast for a year on his Vespa. He then turned entrepreneurial and operational: he designed, launched and sold a "smartfood"/healthy-snack brand (around 2010–2011), founded Financière Avanti to run investment and business-development projects across FMCG, sports, leisure and education, and pursued an impact-investing education project in Libya (circa 2012–2015).
In 2015 he joined Otium Capital under founder Pierre-Édouard Stérin and co-founded its consumer arm (Otium Brands / Otium Consumer), serving as a partner until 2018. Alongside Camille Kriebitzsch (who joined from Birchbox), this consumer investing practice evolved into Eutopia. A meeting with the founders of Même Cosmetics is credited with crystallizing the team's investment philosophy around purpose-driven consumer brands. Fine describes one of his core strengths as "building and tapping into strong advisor networks."
Eutopia, founded in 2015, has since backed roughly 29–30+ consumer companies, raised a €100 million fund, earned B Corp certification, and grown to around €280 million in assets under management.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests at seed and Series A in consumer brands, with checks generally ranging from ~€500K up to €10M, concentrated in companies with a proven business model in France, Europe and the US.
- Thematic focus on brands "rethinking how we eat, sleep, dress, exercise and feel" — spanning food, beauty, wellness, sleep, apparel, education and leisure.
- Built around a direct-to-consumer / DNVB thesis: brands that sell physical products using primarily online distribution and communication.
- In his own words: *"New consumer brands are emerging…driven by inspiring entrepreneurs in tune with the changing consumer expectations of transparency, meaning, fair distribution of value and impact."*
- Deliberately contrarian to mainstream VC: Eutopia targets founders who struggle to raise in *"a VC market that is 'tech' focussed and reluctant to look at business models exposed to traditional business constraints."*
- Strong emphasis on impact and sustainability — the firm is B Corp certified and screens for mission-driven, values-aligned founders.
