Background
Anubhav Goyal is an IIT Kharagpur alumnus, where he earned a Dual Degree (B.Tech + M.Tech) in Industrial Engineering & Management, graduating in 2017 as a silver medalist. While in college he co-founded a social startup — modeled loosely on a "mechanical Turk" to supplement the income of gig-economy workers. That venture won the national pitch event at IIM Ahmedabad and went on to represent India, finishing in the top six at the Boston Regional Finals of the HULT Prize.
He began his career as a management consultant at a boutique consulting firm, working out of its South-East Asia office in the Philippines. There he advised on CEO-agenda issues across industries including logistics, infrastructure, telecommunications and IT.
Goyal joined Chiratae Ventures (then transitioning from its IDG Ventures India roots) around 2019 and spent roughly five years on the investment team, rising to Associate Vice President. His mandate covered evaluating early-stage technology deals, supporting portfolio companies, building sector investment theses, and tracking Indian macro and private-market trends. He is credited with authoring Chiratae's investment thesis and deal commentary in areas such as agri-tech and B2B marketplaces. According to his LinkedIn history, he moved on from Chiratae around 2024 to Pocket FM (the audio-series / audio-entertainment platform), meaning his Chiratae contact details may now be dormant.
Chiratae Ventures itself is one of India's leading technology-focused venture funds, managing $700M+ across 80+ companies spanning Consumer Media & Tech, Cloud/Software, Health-tech and Fin-tech, and is headquartered in Bengaluru.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Backs early-stage (Seed–Series A) Indian technology startups, consistent with Chiratae's broader early-to-growth mandate.
- Deep interest in agri-tech — he authored Chiratae's rationale for the Ergos deal, praising its "Grainbank" model that gives farmers farm-gate warehousing, agri-processing and a digital inventory of their produce, enabling year-round micro-selling and better price discovery via hyper-local buyer linkages.
- Strong conviction on B2B marketplaces — his work (including a Bizongo case study he is reported to have presented at Harvard Business School) frames them around GMV flow, margin capture through value-add, and working-capital dynamics, on the thesis that under 1% of India's large B2B transaction volume is currently online.
- Cross-sector coverage aligned with Chiratae's pillars: consumer/media tech, SaaS/cloud, fintech and healthtech.
- Evaluates companies on thesis fit (large addressable market, tech-driven wedge, defensible unit economics) rather than opportunistically.
Notable Investments
- Ergos — agri-tech "Grainbank" startup providing farm-gate warehousing and grain-financing; Chiratae led its ~$11M Series A in 2020 (alongside existing investor Aavishkaar Capital). Goyal authored Chiratae's public deal thesis on the investment.
- Bizongo — B2B packaging & apparel supply-chain marketplace; a Chiratae portfolio company that Goyal used as a case study for the firm's B2B-marketplace thesis. (Bizongo later raised a $110M round from Tiger Global and others.)
