Background
Anurag Mathur is a Partner at Unitas Capital, a Hong Kong–based private equity firm and one of the pioneers of the Asia buyout market. Operating from Hong Kong, Mathur has focused on private-equity investments in technology companies across Asia. He joined the firm in 2001, when it was affiliated with the J.P. Morgan Partners franchise in Asia (the firm traces its lineage to CCMP Capital Asia, the Asian arm of J.P. Morgan Partners, before it was rebranded as Unitas Capital).
Before joining the firm, Mathur was a Director with Chase Capital Asia Technology Advisors, a J.P. Morgan Partners–affiliated direct-investment fund focused on technology companies in Asia. Earlier, he spent roughly three years with Indocean Chase Capital Advisors, where he concentrated on direct investments in India. He began his finance career at Peregrine Capital in India as a research analyst covering the metals and heavy-engineering sector.
Mathur holds a B.S. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi, and an M.B.A. from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad — two of India's most selective institutions in engineering and management, respectively.
As a partner, Mathur has taken board seats at several portfolio companies, reflecting the firm's hands-on, control-oriented investment style. He has served on the boards of Babela's (a China-based bakery/food-and-beverage chain), Jiayo Noodle, and ZNV (a technology company). Unitas Capital as a whole has invested in a portfolio of more than 30 companies across the Asia-Pacific region.
