Background
Anya McGanty served as Managing Director of the Deming Center Venture Fund (DCVF), a graduate-student-run venture capital fund sponsored by the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder. She joined the fund in September 2019 and earned her MBA from CU Boulder's Leeds School of Business in the Class of 2021. DCVF is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of MBA, law, and engineering graduate students, and functions both as a hands-on educational program and as a source of early-stage capital for the Colorado startup community.
Before her venture work at CU, McGanty's background was in commercialization and market development. At Boulder Startup Week 2017 she was listed as a marketing executive with G+N Medical (London, UK), focused on launching medical devices — including a UK market leader — into the U.S. market. She has also been associated with SKP Contract Consulting as co-founder/CFO.
More recently, McGanty co-founded a real estate venture aimed at facilitating investments in sustainable housing across underserved U.S. markets and internationally, emphasizing new technology and sustainable building materials. On her CU profile she describes strengths in building professional networks and relationships and in sales and market strategy, and cites a personal commitment to environmental conservation — particularly ocean preservation — as well as equity and sustainability. Public profiles also list a subsequent role at NetApp.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests small, founder-friendly seed checks (~$25K) into venture-scalable early-stage companies tied to Colorado or CU Boulder.
- Industry-agnostic: the DCVF portfolio ranges across aerospace, biotech, agtech, fintech, food supply chain, and housing.
- Founder-friendly, hands-off structure: the fund states "No term negotiation, we sign on to same terms as lead investor," and targets a fast 3–5 week decision timeline.
- Prioritizes companies that strengthen and grow the Colorado startup ecosystem, with founders open to collaboration and mentorship.
- Personally motivated by impact themes — sustainable housing, environmental/ocean conservation, and equity ("would love to do all that I can to give a helping hand to the next in line").
