Background
Ariel Arrieta is a founding partner and General Partner at NXTP Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2011 and focused on B2B technology in Latin America and globally. NXTP describes itself as having 15+ years investing in the region, 122 investments, 32 exits, $250M+ in AUM, and NXTP Fund III as a $100M current fund.
Before NXTP, Arrieta built companies in online media and advertising. NXTP’s team profile says he co-founded several startups starting in 1999 and, in 2003, co-founded Digital Ventures and InZearch, growing them into leading ad-network businesses in Latin America. Both companies were acquired in July 2007 by Fox International Channels, a News Corp. company.
After the Fox acquisition, Arrieta worked on integration and helped shape the international expansion strategy for the ad network, later rebranded as .Fox Networks. NXTP states that the business increased revenue four-fold and expanded from 3 Latin American offices to 21 offices across 4 continents. He is a Kauffman Fellow class 18 and an HBS OPM Class 41 member.
Arrieta’s older personal biography says he has been involved in the internet and online-advertising industry since 1994, with prior roles at Global Mind, ViaNetworks, Inea Internet, and Century Internet, and entrepreneurial projects including I-Solution, OK-Compra.com, and V-Commex.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- NXTP’s stated thesis: “We back founders building the future of B2B technology” and invest “from Latin America to the world” early, partnering with founders for the long term.
- Stage focus is early: NXTP says it invests “at every phase between a PowerPoint and Series A,” primarily in B2B companies at pre-seed and seed, usually as the first institutional check, and less frequently at Series A.
- Check size is $500k-$3M for seed rounds, with NXTP preferring to lead or co-lead; Series A checks are typically $2M-$5M.
- Sector focus is thesis-driven rather than generalist: Cloud & SaaS, e-commerce enablers, fintech, B2B marketplaces, AI and data-driven businesses, plus enterprise, infrastructure, security, logistics, and developer platforms.
- Founder quality is central. NXTP says its key founder criteria include obsession and commitment to the mission, leadership and communication ability, founder-market fit, intellectual curiosity, prior excellence, a data-driven approach, and customer-centric culture.
- Arrieta’s own writing emphasizes execution over ideas: in his NDA post, he writes that NXTP’s mantra is “Las ideas valen centavos, las implementaciones, millones,” and says the valuable signal is a multidisciplinary team with execution capacity, market validation, and real customers willing to pay.
- NXTP positions its support around go-to-market, access to enterprise customers, a network of operators and investors, talent and recruiting, fundraising support, and leadership mentoring.
