Background

Badatala Sreeneivasa Rao is a career banker with Union Bank of India, one of India's large public-sector commercial banks. He joined the bank in 1989 as a Rural Development Officer (RDO) and rose through a variety of roles and geographies over more than three decades. His experience spans social/rural banking, information technology, corporate communication and branch management, and he led "Very Large" and "Exceptionally Large" branches of the bank. He also headed the bank's overseas operations at its Hong Kong branch and oversaw its MIS and joint-venture subsidiary verticals.

He was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Union Bank of India with effect from 12 January 2017, moving up from a Deputy General Manager position, and served as CFO for roughly two and a half years. Following his CFO tenure he was elevated to General Manager and headed the Field General Manager's Office (FGMO) covering Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.

On the governance side, he was named a Nominee Director representing Union Bank of India on the board of NABFINS (NABARD Financial Services Ltd), effective 26 September 2019, in his capacity as General Manager, FGMO.

Academically, he holds a postgraduate degree in Agriculture, is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB), and has completed training in Home Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru (IIM-B).

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • No public evidence of a personal angel/venture investment thesis. His professional focus has been institutional banking — corporate finance, financial reporting and treasury as CFO, plus rural/social banking, overseas branch operations, and MIS/subsidiary oversight.
  • As a NABFINS nominee director, his institutional exposure touches micro-finance and rural financial services (NABFINS is a NABARD-promoted, non-deposit-taking NBFC-MFI focused on financial inclusion).
  • Any "seed round / angel" framing from investor-database stubs could not be substantiated and should be treated as unverified.

Notable Investments

  • No documented personal startup or angel investments were found in public sources. (His board role at NABFINS is a corporate nominee directorship on behalf of Union Bank of India, not a personal investment.)
