Background
Baiju Devani is a London-based renewable-energy and infrastructure investor who has worked in the sector since 2008. He holds an MA in Economics from the University of Cambridge and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) at Deloitte. Early in his career he was a member of the macroeconomics team at HM Treasury, before moving into the commercial team at Renewable Energy Systems (RES), one of the world's largest renewable-energy developers.
From 2013 to 2020 he was an Investment Director at Ingenious (The Ingenious Group), where he managed the firm's Renewable Energy Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) funds and a number of joint ventures with renewable-energy developers. There he led Ingenious' onshore wind activity, including the development and financing of one of the UK's largest Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) wind portfolios.
In March 2020 he joined Bluefield Partners LLP (part of The Bluefield Group, investment adviser to the LSE-listed Bluefield Solar Income Fund, BSIF) as UK Investment Director. In this role he leads Bluefield's UK investment activity across solar, onshore wind, hydro and energy storage. During his tenure he has led on approximately £400m of solar and wind transactions, contributing to a career total of more than £900m of renewable-energy transactions.
He is a recurring speaker at UK energy-investment events, including the Energy Storage Summit run by Solar Media.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in renewable-energy generation and infrastructure assets — solar PV, onshore wind, hydro and, increasingly, energy storage / batteries — rather than in early-stage companies.
- Operates at institutional / project-finance scale (multi-tens-to-hundreds of millions per deal), covering development-, construction- and operational-stage assets.
- Focused on the UK market, reflecting Bluefield's mandate as adviser to the Bluefield Solar Income Fund and related private funds.
- Has publicly framed the strategy as a "journey from solar to diverse energy investments" — i.e. expanding a solar-anchored portfolio into a diversified mix of wind, hydro and storage to build resilient, income-generating renewable infrastructure.
- Underwriting draws on his blend of economics, chartered-accountancy and developer-side commercial experience, emphasising financeable, revenue-contracted (e.g. FiT/PPA/subsidy-backed and merchant) assets.
Notable Investments
- Bluefield Solar Income Fund (BSIF) — LSE-listed renewable income fund advised by Bluefield Partners; Baiju leads UK deal origination and execution across its solar, wind, hydro and storage assets (2020–present).
- ~£400m of UK solar and wind transactions led at Bluefield since 2020 (aggregate, individual assets not all publicly named).
- UK Feed-in-Tariff onshore wind portfolio — at Ingenious he led the development and financing of one of the UK's largest FiT wind portfolios (2013–2020).
- Ingenious Renewable Energy EIS funds — managed these tax-advantaged funds and multiple developer joint ventures during his Ingenious tenure.
