Background
Balaji Yelamanchili is a long-time enterprise-software operating executive who moved into venture investing before returning to operating roles. In October 2018 he joined Shasta Ventures as a Venture Partner on the firm's enterprise team, brought on specifically to deepen Shasta's push into cybersecurity and enterprise infrastructure. In that role he sourced investments for the firm's enterprise/security portfolio and, in select cases, took board seats. He has also served as an Operating Executive / Operating Partner at Evergreen Coast Capital, the private-equity arm of Elliott Management, advising cybersecurity companies on scaling.
His operating career spans more than two decades of high-growth software companies. Most recently before venture, he was Executive Vice President and General Manager of Symantec's Enterprise Security Business Unit. Prior to Symantec, he was a Senior Vice President at Oracle, responsible for Business Analytics and Enterprise Performance Management — including product management, development, and go-to-market strategy. Earlier in his career he held executive positions at EMC Corporation (Dell EMC), Documentum, and Rational Software (now part of IBM).
In April 2022 Yelamanchili was appointed Chief Executive Officer of ThreatConnect, a threat-intelligence and security-operations platform, succeeding co-founder Adam Vincent. He was named one of the "Top 25 Cybersecurity Executives of 2024." After Dataminr acquired ThreatConnect (a deal reported at roughly $290 million), he was named President and Chief Operating Officer of Dataminr in late 2025, combining Dataminr's real-time public-data signals with ThreatConnect's intelligence-management platform.
He holds an M.S. in Engineering from Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge) and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests primarily at seed and early stage in enterprise software and cybersecurity/infrastructure, leveraging deep operator credibility from Oracle, Symantec, EMC, and Documentum.
- At Shasta, his mandate was to source security and enterprise-infrastructure deals and to help scale portfolio companies operationally — Shasta added him precisely to "double down" on cybersecurity startups.
- Beyond enterprise SaaS, his personal/angel activity extends into AI, robotics, and autonomy/aerospace (e.g., Elroy Air, Airspace Systems), reflecting a bet on emerging deep-tech categories alongside core software.
- His edge is operational: as a former EVP/GM and SVP who ran large product organizations, he tends to back companies where go-to-market execution and enterprise-scale product management are decisive — and where he can add value as an advisor or board member.
