Background
Barry Goldsmith is an Operating Partner and co-founder of Updata Partners. Updata describes him as having more than 35 years of experience in the information technology industry as an entrepreneur, senior executive, investor, and advisor to software and IT services companies.
In 1968, Goldsmith founded CGA Computer, Inc., an information technology consulting services and software products company serving Fortune 500 customers. CGA went public in 1969, then was taken private in 1984 through a leveraged buyout with General Atlantic Partners. Two years later, CGA’s divisions were sold to Computer Associates and CapGemini; by that point, Updata says the company employed about 1,200 people and generated more than $90 million in annual revenue.
After CGA, Goldsmith co-founded Updata Software, a provider of DB2 tools, and Sablesoft. Those companies were acquired by Online Software and Platinum Technologies, respectively. Updata Partners says its firm name traces back to Updata Software.
Goldsmith has served on boards of public companies including Goal Systems, Compuware, Alphanet, Astea, and Frontstep. He graduated from Rutgers University, where he played lacrosse.
