Background
Benoît Thiedey has worked as a professional investor since 2006. He holds a Master's degree in Valuation and Financial Engineering of Business Transfers ("Évaluation et ingénierie financière des transmissions d'entreprise") from Université Lyon II, completed in 2005–2006. He began his investing career at Naxicap Partners before moving to Eiffel Investment Group, where he served as Investment Director from roughly 2011 to 2017.
In 2017 he joined Alliance Entreprendre — a private-equity firm created in 1995 and, at the time, part of the BPCE / Natixis group — specifically to build out its venture-capital investment activity as Investment Director. There he led early-stage deals in French tech, taking board seats and driving the firm's push into higher-growth digital and cybersecurity companies alongside colleagues such as Sébastien Viou (Operating Partner) and Romain Mistre.
In April 2022, Thiedey moved to Seventure Partners, one of Europe's most active early-stage venture firms, as part of Seventure's takeover of Alliance Entreprendre's retail FIP (Fonds d'Investissement de Proximité) fund business. He continues as Investment Director at Seventure, where the firm invests across two arms — Digital Technologies (fintech, retailtech, enterprise software) and Life Sciences — with Thiedey aligned to the digital-technology side.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in early-stage French and European tech startups raising their first institutional venture rounds, typically taking a minority position and a board seat or observer role.
- Concentrates on enterprise/B2B SaaS, HR & talent-tech, fintech/retailtech, and cybersecurity — sectors where he has repeatedly backed companies (365Talents in HR AI; Secure-IC and Sekoia.io in cyber).
- Ticket sizes of roughly €0.5M–€4M historically (Alliance Entreprendre), scaling to €0.5M–€10M with follow-on capacity to ~€20M per company at Seventure — supporting companies from early stage through growth.
- Attracted to companies with defensible technology and a clear path to European leadership — e.g., his stated conviction in Secure-IC as a major player in "Security by Design," and in 365Talents' AI-based approach to the growing talent-management market.
- Long-term, supportive posture: known to reinvest in existing portfolio companies across successive rounds rather than backing only new names.
Notable Investments
- 365Talents — AI/NLP-powered HR SaaS for skills mapping and talent management. Backed at the seed round (~€2.5M, led with Axeleo Capital, ~2018) and the €10M Series A (2021, with iXO Private Equity, Citizen Capital, Ventech and others); Thiedey has sat on the board since 2018.
- Secure-IC — end-to-end embedded cybersecurity ("Security by Design," Root of Trust, post-quantum). Alliance Entreprendre led the company's €20M round (announced Jan 2022) alongside GO Capital and BNP Paribas Développement; Thiedey was a named lead.
- Sekoia.io — cyber threat-intelligence and detection platform. Alliance Entreprendre co-led Sekoia's first €10M round (Oct 2020) with Omnes Capital; Thiedey and Sébastien Viou represented the firm.
- Touch & Sell — sales-enablement SaaS; ~€2M round (2018) in which Alliance Entreprendre participated.
- Andjaro — workforce/staff-mobility management software; Thiedey served as board observer (2020–2023).
- Hivency — influencer-marketing platform (later acquired by Skeepers); Thiedey was a board member (2019–2021).
