Background
Bevan Elliott is an Investment Director at Anacacia Capital, a Sydney-based private investment firm founded in 2007 by Jeremy Samuel. At Anacacia he is responsible for originating and assessing investment opportunities and supporting the growth of investee companies. He brings over 25 years of investment, financial, operational and advisory experience to the role.
His career prior to Anacacia spans corporate advisory, private equity and operating roles. He spent more than a decade at Deloitte, including as a Director in the firm's Australian corporate advisory business. He subsequently was a Director in ANZ's private equity business, and later served as Group Chief Finance Officer at Hollard Financial Services (part of the Hollard insurance group).
Elliott qualified as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa, where he completed an honours degree and his articles before immigrating to Australia. His combination of accounting, M&A advisory and operating-CFO experience aligns closely with Anacacia's hands-on, governance-focused approach to backing SMEs.
As part of his Anacacia role he holds non-executive director positions with portfolio companies, currently including Duncan Technologies (Duncan Solutions). He has previously sat on the boards of Anacacia portfolio companies ForceFire, LEDified, Mwave, Catalyst Education and RISsafety.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in leading, profitable small-to-medium enterprises, partnering with CEOs and management teams to turn strong SMEs into market leaders — a lower mid-market PE strategy, not early-stage/angel investing.
- Target companies typically generate ~A$20–400m revenue and ~A$5–50m earnings per year.
- Backs businesses at inflection points: ownership change, succession, expansion and/or acquisitions, where owners are seeking a growth partner and/or partial liquidity (shareholder sell-downs).
- Provides not just capital but resources for strategy, financing, M&A, governance, exit planning and long-term value creation.
- Distinctive process: Anacacia typically gains exclusivity before spending on due diligence, taking time to know a business deeply and invest only in well-managed, profitable companies.
- Board-level, hands-on involvement is core — Elliott and colleagues take non-executive director seats to support portfolio companies directly.
