Background
Bob Forbes is the founder and president of Forbes Partners (originally launched as The Forbes M+A Group in 2004; the boutique-advisory brand Forbes Partners followed in 2017). Since beginning his finance career in 1991, he has led more than 150 corporate finance initiatives across his roles as a business owner, private equity executive, and investment banker. His transactional experience spans M&A, debt and equity financings, and corporate restructurings in industries including technology, consumer products, food, healthcare, entertainment, energy, industrials, and business services. Before founding his own firm, he held senior finance roles at Independent Energy Partners, WPP, Westar Capital, and Tricor Partners.
Bob is a serial entrepreneur, which is the likely root of the "angel investor" characterization. He founded Peak Network Communications (technology), Energyworld (business intelligence), and Authentor Systems (security technology, which merged with a T-NETIX subsidiary), and he co-founded M2M Data Corporation, a Denver-area remote-monitoring/IoT company (backed by investors including NERD Energy and Fusion Ventures) that was ultimately sold to Caterpillar Inc. in 2016 to expand Caterpillar's Cat® Connect suite.
He holds a BS in Finance and International Business from the University of Colorado at Denver (Magna Cum Laude) and completed the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation. His professional credentials include FINRA Series 24, 7, and 63 licenses, the Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) designation, and the Merger & Acquisition Master Intermediary (M&AMI) designation. In 2026 he was named a Colorado Titan 100 honoree, recognizing the state's top 100 CEOs and C-level executives.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Operates primarily as an M&A advisor and capital-raise intermediary for middle-market companies rather than as a traditional angel/seed fund; the firm's stated specialty is bringing multiple senior advisors with diverse real-world operating expertise to every transaction.
- Sector coverage is broad: technology, consumer/food, healthcare, entertainment, energy, industrials, and business services.
- Core services are mergers & acquisitions (sell-side and buy-side), raising growth/expansion capital (debt and equity), and financial restructuring.
- His personal early-stage/angel affinity is grounded in having founded and co-founded multiple venture-backed technology companies himself, giving him an operator's lens on emerging companies.
- (No publicly stated seed-stage check size or formal angel thesis was found — treat any "Seed Round / Angel" framing cautiously.)
