Background

Brad Armstrong is a Partner and Investment Committee member at Lovell Minnick Partners, a private equity firm founded in 1999 by financial-services executives Jeffrey D. Lovell and James E. Minnick that specializes in the financial services, fintech, and business-services sectors. Armstrong joined the firm in 2009 and works out of its Philadelphia office. He was promoted to Principal in January 2013 and subsequently to Partner, and now sits on the firm's Investment Committee.

Before joining LMP, Armstrong spent time in investment banking as part of the Financial Institutions Group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he focused on M&A and capital-raising transactions for the bank's financial-institution clients. Earlier he served as an Assistant Vice President in Bank of America's Finance Group, and he began his career in a strategic advisory group within Wachovia Corporation. This financial-services and FIG investment-banking background maps directly to LMP's specialized investing focus.

Armstrong earned an M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance and Accounting from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a B.S. in Business Administration from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He is an active board member across LMP's portfolio. He currently serves (or has recently served) on the boards of Pathstone, SRS Acquiom, ACU-Serve, Reflect Health, Omni Healthcare Financial, S&S Health, STP Investment Services, and Tortoise Investments, and previously served on the boards of Commercial Credit Inc., First Allied Holdings Inc., and LSQ Funding.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests through Lovell Minnick's institutional PE funds (the firm has raised more than $6 billion in committed capital since inception; its Fund V closed at roughly $1.28 billion). This is growth/buyout private equity, not angel or seed investing.
  • Targets growth-oriented, middle-market companies in financial services, fintech, and financial/business services across North America and Europe.
  • Equity checks generally in the ~$40M–$150M range, with the ability to do larger deals; pursues both control buyouts and significant minority/growth investments.
  • Emphasizes value creation beyond capital — in 2025 interviews Armstrong stressed supporting portfolio companies with an operating/advisor "bench," prioritizing where to allocate budget and resources, and lining up advisors before a deal closes.
  • Espouses a "simplicity done right" philosophy: sticking to a firm's core strengths and avoiding over-complication as a driver of PE success.
  • Looks for businesses where LMP's sector specialization and operating playbook can accelerate growth (e.g., add-on M&A, employee-ownership models, and operational/tech upgrades, as seen with Pathstone).

Notable Investments

  • Pathstone — UHNW multi-family office / wealth manager; LMP took a majority stake in November 2019 and Armstrong joined the board. Helped arrange $100M+ in credit lines for M&A and tech; AUA grew sharply (≈$7B in the year after investment). Supported acquisitions such as Price Wealth (Austin, TX) in 2020.
  • SRS Acquiom — Provider of M&A payments, escrow, and shareholder-representation services; Armstrong board member.
  • STP Investment Services — Investment-services/middle-and-back-office outsourcing firm that received a growth investment from LMP (announced March 2022); Armstrong board member.
  • ACU-Serve — Revenue-cycle management for the home medical equipment / healthcare sector; Armstrong board member.
  • Reflect Health — Healthcare-services portfolio company; Armstrong board member.
  • Omni Healthcare Financial / S&S Health — Healthcare-financial / services investments where Armstrong serves on the board.
  • Tortoise Investments — Asset manager (energy/infrastructure focus); board involvement.
  • Prior boards: Commercial Credit Inc., First Allied Holdings Inc., and LSQ Funding (specialty finance / wealth distribution).
