Background
Braun Jones is the controlling member and Managing Member of Stonehaven Capital, LLC, a private investment holding company based in Reston, Virginia. Stonehaven says it makes private equity and debt investments in early- and expansion-stage businesses and real estate, invests from its own account, and does not manage a fund or outside assets.
Jones began his career in 1988 as a financial analyst and project director for a subsidiary of Arnold & Porter. In 1992 he founded Integrated Management Strategies, a corporate finance advisory firm, and exited in 1994 when he co-founded University Online, later renamed VCampus, an online-learning technology company that went public in 1996. He exited VCampus in 1998.
In 1998, Jones co-founded and served as President of The McLean Group, a middle-market investment bank and valuation firm, and sold his ownership position in a management buyout in 2005. He then became a co-owner and Managing Director at Outcome Capital, exiting in 2014. He later founded Ashton Stewart International Holdings, a diversified financial-services company, and sold his majority position in a management buyout in June 2019.
Jones is also CEO of AsiAmerica, an international market-development and software-distribution company focused on cybersecurity technologies in Latin America, and is listed by TXN Advisors as Chairman. TXN reports that he has founded or co-founded seven companies, privately invested his own capital in more than 35 companies and real estate projects, and had 15 successful exits. He earned a BS in Finance from Virginia Tech in 1987 and an MBA from James Madison University in 1988.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Stonehaven invests private equity and debt into early- and expansion-stage businesses and real estate.
- The firm typically partners with other individual and institutional investors, but is occasionally the sole investor.
- Stonehaven invests its own capital and does not manage a fund or assets for others.
- The firm says it adds value through strategic and financial advice and by providing access to its network.
- Jones appears especially relevant for founders in technology, software, cybersecurity, defense/government/intelligence, security, business services, and real estate.
- Stonehaven’s stated operating philosophy is to “take a long view to building value” and avoid short-term revenue growth that does not create lasting value.
- In a June 17, 2025 LinkedIn article on recurring-revenue valuation, Jones summarized his valuation lens as: “Value = Benefit / Risk.”
