Background
Brendan Fallis is a co-founder, Managing Director, and General Partner of Leawood Venture Capital, an early-stage technology fund based in Leawood, Kansas, in the Kansas City metro area. He founded the firm alongside Karl Gemperli and Todd Daniels, and the firm has raised multiple funds (Fund I and Fund II) and invested in more than 30 portfolio companies since its founding (the firm dates its investing activity to 2016 and was formally organized around 2017). At Leawood he serves on the investment committee and holds an active slate of 11+ board and board-observer seats across the portfolio.
Before venture capital, Fallis spent the bulk of his career at Verizon Wireless, where he rose through a series of senior commercial roles — Director of Wireless Data Sales, Director of Consumer Sales, and Director of B2B Sales — before becoming a Region President. In that role he is credited with scaling a business unit from roughly $1 billion to $2 billion in annual recurring revenue over six years and personally closing more than $8 billion in revenue-committed contracts with approximately 25% of the Fortune 500. He brings what Leawood describes as a "multi-billion-dollar P&L operator lens" to early-stage investing, with more than 20 years in leadership across sales, distribution, go-to-market, business development, and strategy, and technical fluency in wireless, IoT, SaaS, PaaS, and cloud.
On the academic side, Fallis holds a BA from Pomona College and an MBA from Norwich University, and has completed executive programs at Harvard Business School and Stanford's Graduate School of Business. He has been recognized on a "Top 40 Under 40" business-leaders list and serves on the Board of Advisors of the University of Kansas School of Business.
(Note: This Brendan Fallis is the Kansas-based venture investor at Leawood Venture Capital and should not be confused with the similarly named New York DJ/entrepreneur.)
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in "disruptive early-stage technology companies nationwide," concentrating capital where the team has hands-on market and technology expertise and can add operating value rather than just money.
- Stage range spans pre-seed through Series B+, with typical checks in the $1M–$3M range (some sources cite a wider $500K–$3M band across the firm).
- Core sectors: AI, cybersecurity, fintech, SaaS, and medtech/life sciences, plus enterprise applications and infrastructure — the firm's largest concentration is in enterprise applications.
- Says "yes" to companies with innovative business models, scalable solutions, and strong founding/management teams in domains the partners can personally help scale go-to-market.
- Fallis specifically brings a large-scale commercial/operator lens (multi-billion-dollar P&L, enterprise sales, Fortune 500 contracting), making him most additive to B2B and deep-tech companies that need help building enterprise distribution.
